My Perfect Outdoor Knife

Are we just going the long way around to saying the 192 Vanguard is the perfect knife?

It sure comes close. The blade shape and handle are about perfect for me. I just wish it was built a little heavier and the blade grind wasn't so thin. I hesitate to use it to hard, but it's a great knife for processing game.

For an all around outdoor knife my 119brs is my favorite. Although the 124 deserves an honorable mention.

I'm all about the never ending quest for the perfect knife too. That's why I have so many :)

Here are my Vanguards, they are near the top of my list. Love 'em

The one on the right sits in the center console of my truck an inch away from my hand at all times. That sheath unbuckled provides no resistance.

the longer bladed vanguards i sure like the looks of...the normal length i have no real need for. so no for me on the 192. i realize im probably alone on that

jb, I'm not a Vangard fan as the grind needs to be taken up farther in the flats and
the belly moved forward. Raising the point would create this, making it a better skinner. It probably works as it is. DM

A long and a standard Vanguard on the way. It will be nice to compare the two in hand, and with cutting tasks. See if the need is there (for me) for the extra length.

That DP/shortening mod on the 119 looks about perfect. Would be nice to put hands on one to see how it compares. I think the 117 is also a “near” perfect knife for me, although I will have to test the handle on it.

ETA: slender, with a bird chest.. I guess it is safe to say I’ve had plenty of belly for a while now..:thumbsup:

Mine only grows when I eat...Ha!Ha!

The larger one was the w39 or the 639 depending on handle material. The smaller one was the 640. Those are the ones with the thumb ramp and the upswept blades. Similar in shape to the Buck Kalinga.

Put the vanguard handle on a 103 blade and my jaw might drop, that might be a beautiful combination.
