My Sheath Cracked... :(

just to clear things up the toaster didnt break it the heat did. any heat "thing" would of broke it if cold water was dripped on after words :)

I am by no means a expert...trying to spot melt kydex will end up ruining the look of the sheath with no guarantee that it would even work.

Your best bet is probably some rubber toughened superglue in conjunction with the spray on accelerator. That stuff is quite strong and not as brittle. In addition, it has a lower viscosity and is less likely to run all over the place like the thinner stuff. Apply it to the crack and wipe off the excess then spray on the hardener.

DO NOT APPLY KRAZY GLUE TO KYDEX !

It attacks it and makes it brittle. VERY brittle !!!

If you think gluing it will work, then use PVC piple glue after using the cleaner on the area.

DO NOT APPLY KRAZY GLUE !!!!!!!!!!!

.

It does. Just wanted to make sure.

I think you could probably heat it to fuse/melt it back together. Anyone?

don't heat kydex less you now whats up to much heat will make it brittle. i would make a sheath for you for free if i can come up with the skel warden. i will try to get a hold of D F Hog he might have one so i can get a pattern.

Thats awfully generous of you.

if things don't work out with the other hog my offer stands just PM me if you need it i have tan and black colors rite now if he can have him make it so it can go on the neck or tec loc, or iWB i like to make all my sheaths that way so your not stuck with one style of carry.

personally I would do what Dwayne suggested and just send it back

but

I will remake it for ya if ya send the skelly with it ( and tell me I'M pretty)

One thing that would concern me is the ability of the sheath to secure the knife. Does the crack inhibit the sheath's ability to hold the knife securely? If it does, I would not chance a fix, inless it is a chemical weld. I would break down and get a new one. Steelnut could probably hook you up as inexpensively as anyone.
If the sheath holds the knife well even in the cracked condition, I would repair it with PVC glue as indicated by David E.

hey eastr if you can get a hold of a SW, so i dont have to ship it, and you just ship me the sheath, that would be easyer for me, and i dont have to tell my mom i am sending my knife to "some guy" :D

The proper method of repairing kydex is to use methylene chloride to fuse/weld the broken parts together. Not sure how easy it will be for you to get hold of some methylene chloride though and you really need a glass syringe to apply it to the joint.

Drill a hole at the end of the crack, fill the crack with glue then use a thin strip of Kydex or other suitably tough cloth/material to wrap either around the sheath or inline with the crack. Then use some more glue on this material so it becomes bonded to the sheath. Sort of like carbonfibre or fibreglass construction? Would over-strengthen the area of the crack so that it didn't simply continue to split at the end of the crack. The hole allows the end of the crack to stablize, it's a technique used in bell repairs.

Well, where were you guys when our Liberty Bell cracked?

Wait, you did show up in force, but the bell never got fixed. LOL Think we sent you home after that.

LOL Just yanking your crank Mate.

Rob

Blood Grooves,

Do you live near the Seattle area? If so there is a great kydex maker near you. (No need to ship out of area) His name is Brian and he owns/operates Okuden Sheaths. I just got my sheaths for my Swamp Wardens and they are awesome. Here is his website http://www.okuden.net/.
Drop him a line and let him know what you need.
