My small survival kit

Here's a small survival kit that I put together this week. I posted my larger one a while ago, but I've been wanting another one similar to that only more compact so that it's easier to carry when I don't have cargo pockets. The pouch is a Maxpedition 3 x 5 Notebook Cover, it has 2 pockets with some elastic slots and is just under 2" thick with all the contents. I got the notebook cover added on for free in an order I made and thought it would make for a pretty good kit. There is a tin, paper, magnifier, and duct tape in one pocket, and everything else in the other. The size of the tin is 3.75" x 2.5" x .875", it's the same size tin that fits in the additional pouch for the RC-5 and RC-6. There's 25' of paracord wrapped up that's paired with the kit, and it easily fits into any of my pockets with the paracord in the other. Here are some pics of the kit and it's contents:

***I've made a few additions to this kit and thought I'd put back up. Firstly I removed the heavy Leatherman and replaced it with a Victorinox Trekker one-handed opener. It's a great SAK and comes with one hell of a saw totally capable of cutting whatever you may need to. Next I somehow squeezed in a large yard and garden trash bag. Lastly I tightly folded then wrapped a green/black shemagh around the outside of the zipped up pouch. I wasn't able to squeeze any more inside so I had to get creative and wrap it around the outside. Sorry for the lack of pics my camera isn't agreeing with me at the time.***

nice.

Just out of curiousity when / how do you carry? Do you keep it in the car? Take it with you only when hiking, hunting, camping. Again I'm just curious to know when people feel they need a survival kit with them.

Looks great; I would have never considered a Maxpedition notebook cover for a kit like that.

I would put the tin in a ziplock bag or something similar to keep it somewhat waterproof.

looks great. wanna store some needles and thread with it?

I always carry a survival kit with me everywhere I go, no matter if it's down to the store or out of town on vacation. I also carry a bug out bag with me everywhere I go since you never know what might happen when your away from home. I did seal the the kit with duct tape to keep out the water. I haven't put any needles and thread in yet, just haven't been able to get out and buy some more. Thanks for the comments.

Nice kit, maybe a space blanket could be useful too? Maybe too many cotton rope segments for fire. You probably only need 4 or 5 TOPS. Just my .02. Really like this one. Well done.

I tried to get a space blanket in there, but it just wouldn't fit. It's not a very big pouch, so the blanket didn't make the cut. I do have a lot of fire starters in there, mostly just to fill up some space until I put the thread, needles, and a couple other things in there.

Looks GREAT! I like the P-51. I used to love the P-38's, I had an old one when I was a kid in the 80's. I don't care much for the new shelby P-38's.

I think the new P-51's with the small spoon on the bottom and a bottle opener on the top are pretty cool also.

GREAT job 333rm nice kit.

Excellent 333rm

I'd love to see your bug-out bag pictures or a link to them if you have it posted somewhere.

Thanks guys!!! I'm going to start on my bug out bag soon, so I should have it up in a week or so.

very nice kit.If a space blanket wont fit you might try a 55 Gal. drum liner.

nice kit 333rm, very complete.
What I do, I fill all the gaps and holes between the items with cottonwool, so I have pretty enough to start a fire and it won't rattle.
