Looks like a more expensive, less comfortable BK-17.

Vanadis 4 extra. I want it.

Honestly though i think that handle looks rather comfortable. I think the jimping is a little bit excessive, id like it more without that jimping, but even with it i really like how the knife looks.

Okay Cbear you got the dual LOL here.
I'll be honest, I stole that from Facebook.
It's not stealing, it's dissemination....and I nearly became incontinent ROFL-ing, 'cause all I could hear in my head was Alvin and the Chipmunks.
WW, I like the looks of that, but not being a steel snob (much) and the price tag....plus I've already got an Elmax 0560, so I think I should not be looking at any knives costing more than, say, 10 bucks. Tops. Being at home for three months with nothing much to do but troll through the exchange and look at all the pretty, pointy things was not a financially efficacious endeavor, nor was it beneficial for my personal economy.

Thanks for the compliments, everyone. I do indeed feel blessed to live where I do.

Yea getting this puppy set me back well over a grand after the puppy, crate, toys, snacks, hygiene etc..... I wont be ordering any new blades for a while.

But the Giedymin chopper should be done soon, and the 2 from crimson should be back from heat treat soon as well hopefully, so ill thankfully still have a few new toys to play with before too long.

Tribble 32 snark. I want it!

I'll be honest I have NO clue about Vanadis. Never even heard about it. But I'm really not that much of a steel snob. I'd be perfectly happy keeping my O1, A2, and 1095CV. I have a couple elmax, which are alright but hard to sharpen. Just takes time.

The jimping is a bit aggressive and the handle looks like it could be a bit more comfortable. the finger guards kind of lock the hand into particular hand holds that I don't necessarily need/want. BUT, I'm also not a fan particularly of Hinderer. Most of his stuff seems slightly overpriced and overbuilt to me.

That is awesome! I'm glad to help brighten your day.

I'll be honest I have NO clue about Vanadis.

It's very interesting stuff, from what I can tell.

Someday when I'm rich and famous, I'm going to make a boatload of knives in different alloys at different hardnesses, just for fun. Till then I'm trying to keep my stock inventory under control :(

Someday when I'm rich and not famous I'm going to have a boat. I actually figured out how to colonize a cargo ship which if s(...)t gets much worse around here I'm going to do it!

Dagnabbit, now you guys have got me studying datasheets and carbide contents and comparative wear-resistance figures again... :grumpy:

Dan was telling me some real good things about that steel, and I actually found that ZT knife just looking for knives made of Vanadis 4 extra lol

Either something is wrong with me or with the rest of the world (slight exaggeration).

Everyone else seems to want new knives in Never-Stain Chromium Dimethyl Kryptonium/Dueterium battle-steel with flubberized possum femur handles while I sit here happy as a pig in pile of defecatory material playing with plain old Kabars/Beckers/Westerns in 1095/Crovan with classic stacked leather or Becker ergonomic handles.

What does that say about my mental attitude? (and yes, I realized I'm asking this in the snark thread.) :D:D:D

Lay down some knowledge on us! What's the difference between A2, O1, 1095CV, Infi, Elmax and Vanadis?

The first 3 have letters and numbers and the last 3 are just letters.

No really i have never even tried/tested O1, or Vanadis YET for that matter and i just feel stupid looking at that stuff James was talking about...

Little Old Ladies (or LOLs, for short)

This past Sunday, when everyone was leaving church, one of the local volunteer EMS responders was just getting out of a rescue truck parked at the base of the stairs to church.

Said he was looking for an EMS call near the church's address but they couldn't find it. (Note - there is 1 house with in 1/2 mile of the church, and that's the Fire Chief's house.)

I asked him who they were looking for and he replied that there was an "little old lady" that needed help.

I said that he had to be in the right place, since we had a whole bunch of little old ladies here that needed all the help they could get. This, with 9 or 10 LOLs standing around, including my 78 y.o. mother.

Fortunately, none of them had brooms or bricks.

A friend of my son's wants one and I'm trying to help scare one up for him. They look kind of strange to me.

they pop up from time to time, but most people keep them. they do well for the size.

perhaps condor on a budget?

me? i kinda want the large Extrema Ratio Khukri, but can't find one. don't want a chinese fake.

and the Russian Khukri

and the Bussee khuk

and ... yeah, can't afford monies for such things

Widely varying chemical composition and manufacturing techniques, resulting in different characteristics of machineability, wear-resistance, toughness and corrosion-resistance, not to mention sometimes-vastly-different requirements for HT. Also, cost and availability. You may as well ask the difference between a bicycle, a Ferrari and a HumVee (in no particular order). They'll all get you from Point A to Point B, they're just different. ETA: if you really want to know, ask in the FAQ thread in my forum, so I don't bore the piss out of everyone here :D

What does that say about my mental attitude?

Not much, honestly. You found an alloy you're comfortable with and it suits your needs. Nothin' wrong with that :)

... i just feel stupid looking at that stuff James was talking about...

Like most technical stuff, it's mainly about wrapping your head around a few basic concepts and learning the vocabulary. You could spend a lifetime of study on it for sure, but frankly the nuts'n'bolts are reasonably straightforward... that's one of the many things I like about my job.
