Just to let everyone know. We are currently only shipping to distributors/dealers and not reselling through our store online or to end users directly. So you will have to go through your local store or other knife source to get one of the automatics.

how solid is the lockup of these sog-tacs.any bladeplay front to back or side to side, even a little? how do they compare to benchmades and daltons? also how is the firing speed? i know the old saying, you get what you pay for holds so true and i see these are pretty cheap when compared to other factory production side openers.any feedback greatly appreciated, thanks, chibaronin

I’m not very good at giving reviews but I’ll try and answer your questions. First off the main feature that I demand in a knife is quality. If it’s not a high quality knife, I won’t buy it. The only other SOGs that I own are the Daggert IIs and I’ve been very pleased with those so I thought I’d try their new auto. There is no blade play in either of these, side to side, or back and forth, and the lockup is very solid. Both of these knives open very fast and hard, so much so that you’ll want to make sure you’ re ready for it when you push the button. The only other autos that I own are the ones with the butterfly on them. I don’t like comparing one companies product to another but I will say that I am very happy with the quality of these SOG autos and will have no hesitation in buying more if they ever decide to produce different versions. Hope this helps.

Bladeplay less that 1/32" side to side (probably less). No play front to back. Firing speed? About .5 second (probably more but not much). Lots of power. You need to be holding it pretty good. I don't know how cheap they are compared to others. They appear to be midrange of Benchmade knives.

I just pulled mine out of the safe to check them again and I still don't see or feel any free play in the blade, how are you testing yours?

Looking down on the blade grabbing the spring mechanism with thumb and index fingers and the rest of the fingers around the handle. Use the other hand at end of the blade and bend side to side. Look at the base of the blade for movement between the handle parts. Play is limited to the inside width of the handle. So, whatever the difference is between the width of the blade and the width of the inside opening of the handle for the blade is about the same amount of play. Check after opening/closing blade many times. I don't know if this a problem or not. Seems fine. Play is minimal.

Ah, I see what you mean, there is some movement there. I’d have to say that your numbers look about right. All in all I think it’s a pretty tight fit, at least as good as my other knives.

Thanks for the instruction

I think I finally understand the bladeplay thing-

I can also attest to its sharpness, I sliced my finger open while moving the knife around to take the picture :o

I also commend X379 for going beyond the call of duty by forthwith providing information to describe the quality of this tool. SOG should send you a hat...hint...hint...hint.

Hey - I just realized that this one doesn't say USA on it anywhere - does anyone know the country of origin on this knife?

All SOG folding knives are made in the USA.

My Vulcan says "Seki Japan."

Anyways, finding a nice auto is tough, especially if you look beyond BM or Microtech (whom I won't deal with).

I'll have to track one of these down and take a look at it.

that is one sweet sog! one armed handecaped persons like my brother can have them. \
as to were it is made --- touchy subject some times...
under the law... you dont have to say usa on items made here.
and you can use imported non usa parts...
IF you say USA You HAVE to use ALL usa made materials and parts!!!
this as i under stand the law would and should exclude haveing usa on any knife made with ATS-34 and many makers quit useing it as it is a jap trade mark for that reason and it is inconsistant with usa labeling laws!
many companys including strider did this and now dont
buck did it and i belive still sells knives with ATS34 stamped on the blades
why or how they get away with it still i dont know...
could be that the raw steel / ore is sorced from the usa and made to the ats 34 with addataves in japan and then shiped back is all i can imagen...but dont know if even that is a loop hole..:o i dont think it is made here as ats34..
the 'major work' provision in the law that every one likes to quote is another agency (under import law enforcement) and is for
only when you DO NOT have to lable it as made in Japan or what ever contry were it is made...
after all buck, in 1968, had to put usa on their knives made here to sell them in canada to comply with their import laws...

The autos are USA.
Chris

reference the above post response to jimmer
as you seem to be a rep of SOG and you are saying the autos are made in USA are you then saying that
ALL MATERIALS USED IN CONSTRUCTION [of this auto are] ARE SOURCED FROM THE USA?
because under the law if you as a rep say that-
then you are advertising and representing the same as if you put USA on the knife itself...
on this i would like a response as i am touchy on the use of USA on items i MAY buy...
i don't care much if it has parts from else ware and made here...
after all a good knife is a good knife...
it's jest that i really really hate miss use of the USA labeling laws which is in essence false advertiseing...
