My son the marine gets caught with a KaBar in his dorm room

update - My son the marine gets caught with a KaBar in his dorm room - Since the original thread was closed, I thought I'd give an update. My son went before the disciplinary board wher his resident advisor really went to bat for him. He was left off with a minor repremand. I guess character still can have value. Thanks all of you for your words of encouragement.

My dorm in the early '80s had a gun room for locking up our guns. It had a private kitchen that could be checked out for preparation of meals of game, for students who were normally on meal plans. It was before Virgina Tech, of course, but after a campus sniper shooting in Texas. It was a less reactive and more reasoned time, says I. No one thought twice about knives, and we had several vets on the floor.

Nothing like fighting for your country, losing fellow soldiers along the way, then coming back to the country your defending and having the bleeding heart scaredycat liberal types restrict your freedoms.

HEIL BLEEDING HEARTS! :jerkit:

Congrats to your son. It's good to hear he got off lightly.

I live in a dorm at WSU and the rules are the same here. No knives aloud. Over Thanksgiving I left my spyderco delica sitting on a shelf along with a leatherman and a bm40tr (i'd risk the spyderco but would never think of bring my bm42). Normally I would bring my delica home but i was excited for break and forgot it. I was so worried that someone would see it during our "inspections". Luckily I came back and nothing was missing.

Honestly though...do they really expect me to travel 2 stories down to the kitchen just to cut a slice of cheese? The way the rule is written i'm not even aloud a butter knife.

All the laws on the books against guns and knives are to protect criminals. Law abiding citizens are defenseless against thugs due to being hamstrung by these silly laws that put us behind bars because we want protection. In addition, these laws are also for job security for law enforcement people. There would be a lot less crime and things for cops to do if criminals knew citizens were armed. For God Sakes, had someone had a Glock at VT Cho might not have gotten so far.

Of course, it's not just liberal universities that have these rules. I went to the Air Force Academy, which is pretty much as conservative a school as you'll find, and all guns had to be locked up with the base armory and no knives longer then 3" in the dorms. Of course, this is in the CO rockies where everyone goes hiking and camping every weekend.

That's a lot better than many "more liberal" universities. I would be very happy if all colleges had regulations that accepting. Having personally owned firearms secured in the armory is indifferent from other military facilities, where personally owned weapons are secured in the respective arms room (for personnel in barracks anyways).
