My Spyderco Salt H1 RUSTED!

A little late to the party but what the heck :D...

I carried a plain edge atlantic salt commercial lobster fishing for over a year. I also carried a serrated pacific salt in my waistband for an emergency knife in case i got pulled overboard.

The atlantic salt usually was clipped to the bib of my oilskins where it was constantly exposed to sea spray. in the winter time i would put it on top of the lobster tank because i wore a pullover over my oilskins. In the winter we use salted bait. The brine tended to puddle on top of the lobster tank. This is extremely salty liquid caused by the fluids of the bait being drawn out by the salt.

I experienced some of the "rusting" that occured with the OP's knife in the grooves on the spine and choil of the knife and in the etching on the blade (mine is the older version that says "atlantic salt" instead of the H1). I also noticed discoloration inside of the opening hole. All of this wiped away easily.

I've taken both the Atlantic and Pacific swimming in the ocean and carried the pacific in my waistband in the summer. Seawater, sweat, fish brine, cutting bait, deisel fuel, bleach, nothing i threw at these knives caused it to rust or corrode.

If you work in a marine environment, spend a lot of recreation time on the water (fresh or salt), work with corrosive chemicals, or even sweat a lot and you want a no nonsense, inexpensive folding knife, then something from the salt series is the knife for you.
