OK,

Talonite is Hot.

And I have a page on it.

http://www.geocities.com/Yosemite/Meadows/1770/talonite.html

Now, I want my page to be a resource, a place that one can point at, to provide reasonably complete information about Talonite.

Now I know it can improve, so I would like you to read it, and tell me what you think....

Any ideas would help, though I may not use them all.

Hi MDP,

Lookin' good!

I would add a little bit of color to it though.

You might want to check back again, and reload the page, I just did another upgrade.

I did the colors that way, because I find that most websites hurt my eyes, so I chose a color scheme that is softer.

Very well done.....I would like to add/question on thing...and I am certainly no expert..but talonite doesnt seem to be brittle to me, as you have stated...rather it is softer than most hardened knife steel, and as a result a thin piece could be interpreted as being brittle, while in my opinion is its just not that hard...my opinion....you sure have alot of info there.

MDP,

Because of your information on Talonite My first Talonite knife is almost complete and ready for sale. I'm no web site expert, I can remember nothing about your site but the fantastic info. I believe it did exactly what you intended it to do---- give people information on talonite and get them excited about the material. I new what to expect before I started on the knives.

Great information!!! Thanks a bunch

The site is informative and well done, it looks very professional. I was not aware that Talonite doesn't require any further heat treating. Good job there MDP.

Congratulation, well done.

As soon as you have realised, that Talonite ist NOT steel, but a Cobalt-Superalloy with its own characteristics, things get easy.

Thank you

Tom :

talonite doesnt seem to be brittle to me, as you have stated...rather it is softer than most hardened knife steel

While for a given alloy with similar heat treats you can make general statements about RC in regards to strength / toughness - this is very prone to error when you compare across different alloys and/or different heat treats. It is easily possible for Talonite to be both soft and ductile and still brittle. Toughness and ductility are not the same thing.

Marion, it would be a significant improvement if the linked threads on the bottom were worked into a commentary. However I do realize that since the info crosses over significantly between threads this would take a huge amount of time.

Very nice collection of info.

Great effort. The only thing I would add come update-time is adding Camillus tot he "Manufacturer" section with their rollout of their Simonich collaboration.

Awesome info source! Thanks for the hard work it must have taken.

Cliff- You hit the nail on the head about the commentary. Though I am still working on a way to make it happen.

Don- Does Camillus have a website? I have a bias on my pages for websites.

John- My pleasure to be of service.

Mr. Poff--
Extraordinary collection of info. Thank you very much for making it available to bladeforum members.
I've found a couple of very knowledgeable sources on Cobalt 6 alloys I thought you might want to add to your repertoire:
Russ Kirchner and Scott Pyle @
High Performance Alloys, Inc., Tipton, IN
(800) 472-5569;
website www.hpalloy.com
--processors/distributors of Cobalt 6BH.
AND
Derrick Craig or Murray Brown @
Deloro Stellite in Belleville, Ontario
(800) 267-2886;
website www.stellite.com
for information on Stellite 6B and 6K.
The elemental makeup of 6B and 6BH are similar. 6K has about 50% more carbon, is less ductile, and is the recommended knife blade material distributed by Deloro Stellite. It is available direct from them.

Marion, I understand about the website bias, I just didn't think about it at the time I wrote my post above. Camillus does have a website, but last time I checked, only covered the current Cuda line. I would guess it will all need to be revamped after the Becker re-introduction and the release of the Simonich collaboration. I'm sure we'll hear about any website updates here or in the Camillus forum. Until then, I guess I'll heed the words of Gilda Radnor's Emily LeTella, "Never mind."

Maybe it's just me, but do you think you could add just a little more info on that page?

Just kidding of course, you do have one of the most complete pages I've ever seen! Nice job there!

Eye,

I sent you a file which should clean up your page a bit and make it easier on the eyes. Let me know if you like it.

MDP,
I have used you site several times for reference info and it's excellent! The Talonite page is just as good. Thanks for putting me on the list of makers that work with Talonite. I will be getting more material soon. If the interest continues like it did with the first two, I hope to do at least 2-3 per month in addition to taking custom orders.
I have some pictures of two Talonite knives in process if that may be of some use.
Thanks and keep up the good work!
Neil
