My thoughts on deep carry pocket clips

I do prefer a deep carry clip for a couple of reasons. First, where I live carrying knives is illegal. Second, I prefer a matte color of Ti then original glossy(I'm talking Spyderco).

The shredded pocket was on the jeans not from the clip.

My thoughts mirror a few already mentioned. I notice a pocket clip from a mile away and usually try to find out what the person is carrying. As far as deep carry, I can take em or leave them, but most of my deep carry knives have a lanyard as it make removal from pocket much easier. So in my case the style of pocket clip.really doesn't factor into whether I buy a knife or not. Definitely not the case for others I'm sure.

Mmm, had deep carry and standard. Depends on the knife for me. Deep carry if it's a heavy knife as the mass tends to throw it from the pocket easire. light ones are fine either way. Deep is preferable if i'm hiking cuz I tend to snag stuff on bushes like the moron I am and I lost a knife and couldn't recover it once. Heart broken. Self defense doesn't come into it for me, I would probably puncture the guy's eardrums with my high-pitched girly scream and then pee my pants and run away as fast as I could. Other than that I am stuffed. I don't generally use a pocket clip any way. A lanyard is my absolute preference.
Have a good one folks.

It's interesting people mention knife retention as a plus for deep carry clips. One of my complaints about many deep carry clips is the lack of clip tension they usually have because of the extra bend and length required. I've noticed that most of my non-deep clips are capable of much greater clip pressures than the deep carry versions even if I try and bend them to add more tension.

In my uses having a stronger clip tension seems more important to keeping it in my pocket than an extra 1/4-1/2" of knife handle with a weaker clip.

I'm a felon living in a gun unfriendly state. I hate deep carry clips. I need fast deployment. My knives are my primary line of defense.

Seriously dude? Becouse you a felon you carry two pocket swords? Are you a member of a cartel?

Hahaha! These are legal to carry in my state.

I'm too white to be in a cartel, LOL.

I waved my Cold Steel Voyager XL clip point, comes out of the pocket lightning fast like the Rajah.
An angle grinder and 5 minutes and it's finished.
Waved knives are very rarely deep carry for good reason.

Exactly. Lanyard is a must. Nothing faster than a waved folder.

I too prefer regular clips for ease of drawing them for EDC use.
Knives are tough to carry in NYC but in my line of work we do not have problems.
I tried lanyards- just do not care for them.

NICE! Wondering how many if any know the "81" and its significance. Ever have anyone ask about it?

I like both styles of clips; it really depends on the design of the knife and clip and how well they work together IMHO. For example; I've had some knives that work better with the standard clip versus the deep carry and the opposite as well.;):D

Tension seems to be an issue with deep carry clips and I find they typically need more tuning than a standard clip to get the retention just right. In addition; I've only ever broken deep carry clips in actual use; two on my Bedlam and both snapped very abruptly at the bend. It was interesting to see they both failed in exactly the same spot...

Also, does anyone know where I can find a deep carry clip for my Espada XL?... ;):D:thumbup:

Nope. Nope. Nope. Nope. Nope.

I prefer deep carry pocket clips for a ton of reasons. Self-Defense and concealment are none of my reasons.

Fast deployment? If it isn't for Self-Defense, what am I in a rush for? That cardboard box ain't runnin' away any time soon.

Haha +1 DAVE_M!!!

I'm more of a deep carry guy.. Just seems to be more comfortable for me.. especially when sitting.. but to each their own.. what came first, the chicken or the egg?!?!

I like ready access, so standard pocket clips are fine with me. I don't want to have to "dig" for deep-carry knives.

I don't care if a good amount is sticking out of my pocket, I grab the end of the knife to pull it out of my pocket. I have a couple of knives with deep carry clips such as the Benchmade 890 Torrent that I was carrying today. I had to use a different technique to pull that knife out, basically I put the tip of my first finger on the end of the clip and push up to get the knife out of my pocket. It works OK but it is not as reliable as grabbing the end of the knife and pulling it out.

Not a fan of deep carry pocket clips but I also do not like a lot of handle sticking out either. I will say though the ZT0562CF that I had is done perfectly, really liked that one.
