My thoughts on the Calfskin Pouch.

I was looking for a different way to carry my Large Insingo and Umnumzan other than the pocket clip. Not being much of a hip sheath guy I decided to give the Calfskin pouch a try. For the past week I have used it and I have to say I am pleased with it so far.

The pouch is really well made with nice even stitching. The front is nicely done with Chris Reeve Knives the CR logo showing. The back has the Think Twice, cut once saying showing. The leather is nice and soft with the bottom and side folded and stitched.

My Large Insingo and Umnumzan fit nicely in the sheath with with just the top flaps covering the bottom of the knife and the lanyard sticking out.

I have found that the knife stays in the sheath very well in the pocket and is readily available with just a pull of the lanyard. Almost has fast has using the pocket clip.

Time well tell how well it will hold up to lots of carry time. All in all I recommend the Calfskin pouch for anyone wanting to try a different way of carrying their Reeves.

Thanks for the words on the pouch. The older those get the more character they start to have. I really love leather.

So you keep the clip on the knife even in the pouch?

How does the pouch feel in the pocket vs. carrying the knife in pocket w/o the pouch?

Thanks for posting as I have been considering the purchase for a little while now.

I agree. Assuming that you put the knife into the pouch in the same orientation, the pouch gets "trained". After a while, they look like conformal coating, forming to nearly every contour of the object they house. I can moderately shake the pouch, opening down, and my Mnandi does not come out.

The standard CRK pouch is a class act.

It feels fine in my pocket. I don't notice much of a difference. But then I tend to carry a bunch of stuff anyways. I left the pocket clip on just incase I want to carry it that way. It fits in the sheath just as good with it.

Thanks for posting that pic Fooj. I was wondering if the the leather would mold itself to the shape of the knife. Nice to know and it looks good.

Great Review and "Fooj" hit the nail on the head. I always make sure I put the knife in the sheath the same way all the time so it molds to the knife just like his has. I have only carried the mnandi in the leather sheath and I must say I like carring it in the sheath rather than carrying it in the pocket without it. To me, it softens the coutours of the mnandi making it feel wider and lays better making it more comfortable in the pocket.

I carry my small classic sebenza in a slip pouch in my left front pocket & my large in a CRK belt pouch on the right side. Mnandi go in your shirt pocket next to your pen.

nice post OP. I'll give mine a try after reading this. I especially like the option for a mnandi, it'd be a shame to scratch one of those up.

I got the pouch for my small sebbie when I wanted a less noticable carry option. It works like a charm.
I did however get a pouch with a new mnandi I just bought and the leather is alot harder than the one I bought seperately. Anyone know if the complementary pouches are lower quality?

They are not. All of the pouches coming from CRK, whether with a knife or accessory purchase, come from the same bins. You're likely noticing a difference in the characteristics of natural materials.

but if you use the pouch, then it won't get all scratched up and stuff.

Where the fun in that?

I've been really enjoying carrying my Mnandi in its pouch.

I can't clip a knife to my everyday jeans because the corner of the pocket has been destroyed by Emerson's so the pouch is the perfect option for me.

Do you think this method of carry is safer against loss than just pocket clip carry?

Wish these came with small sebenzas instead of an additional $35

They only cost $20.00 not $35.00

And they do come with certain small sebenzas

Its way safer than a pocket clip, Its down at the bottom of your pocket

Pocket clips allow the knife to get snagged and pulled from your pocket

I lost 3 auto's do to pocket clips
