The Ken Onion Vapor by Kershaw! Great little knife, good finish, good action, and $30.00 dollars! Great job Ken and Kershaw.

Not the Laguioles, but those with the wood handles and the little chrome twisty collers you turn to "lock" the blade.

Carbon & stainless blade steels are available, along with a decent convex edge. Mere pocket change when compared to what some of us knuts spend on our edged addictions.

I'd grab mine and inform you of the brand name, but my 20 year old daughter grabbed it and put it in her purse when she headed back to school after the holidays!

My best friend lives with his wife and kids in Lyon, France. He says knife users in his wife's country treat them as diposables; Dull? Toss it. Personally, I say keep touching up the blade and get the most mileage you can out of these sharp little workers.

For me, it would have to be the Buck Nighthawk. It's one heck of a good fixed-blade knife "for the money".:).

I think Schrade Old Timers and Uncle Henry's are great knives for a modest amount of loot.

Good luck,
Allen.

I like very much my gerber AR 3.50, bought for about 45$.
Opinels are great and with a little work you can get a good semi-custom do-it-yourself knife out of them.

I have a few Opinel's around the house to use and abuse. They are indeed excellent knives for the money. I use them for things that I don't want to put my good knives through. They have taken everything I have thrown at them. And at less than $10 I don't care if they do get screwed up. The locking mechanism has also never failed me (very important when looking at a cheap knife).

My vote goes for the Cold Steel Twistmasters. I think you can get these for under $15, and they will outcut most any knives out there. Only negative would be the corrosion factor, but if you wipe em down and oil em, no problems. That Carbon V steel takes a wickedly sharp edge and holds it.

I will second that. I am extremely impressed with the quality and "walk and talk" of the Schrade folders I own. I carry an Uncle Henry premium stockman everyday. Opinels are also great. Maybe check out the infamous "Douk Douk."

shrade oldtimers especially the sharpfinger in carbon steel.I got two once for 9.95each at k-mart on sale.gailt

Thank you for clarifying that. :)

(Frost Cutlery makes/sells those obnoxious $20 "Rambo" style fake Bowies.)

I've also been looking at other foreign makers such as Aitor and Muela. There are a lot of decent knives out there that cost less than the $200-$300 many US manufacturers would have you pay for comparable goods.

opinel.
sweet knives...the edge you can put on em is INCREDIBLE.this is the only knife i have been able to slice through paper with as it was falling through the air.

very good knives.

I vote for the Schrade old timer, any model!! For $25 or less, you just can't go wrong. -Rick

Obviously not as cheap as Opinels... but a good deal nonetheless are CRKTs... I think most people here at the forums thing highly of them being reliable and well-made folders mostly (some fixed).
