My vote for the best all around cheapy

I agree with the SAK opinions. I have gotten more use out of my $20 Wenger Handyman than any other knife I own.

I say a toss up between the various SAK and the Gerber LST. Been using both for years, can find them most anywhere, and normally under $20.

In a fixed blade, the Schrade Old Timer Sharpfinger and the Buck 105 Pathfinder come to mind. Each can be had for around $30.

IMO, definitely the Victorinox SAK's. My current SAK EDC's are a black Classic and a Soldier. They can be bought very cheaply, and the soldier is very solid with its alox handles. I have gotten more utility out of them than the $$ I paid for them. And the Victorinox quality control is number one in overall consistency for slipjoint manufacturers.

The Timberline Worden Tactical in either the medium or large size is a hell of a knife for the money. Sharp, heavy duty, under $50, and good warranty.:D

Opinel. Cheap, incredibly sharp, ergonomic, locking mechanism.
I agree on the Opinel. $11 US here, retail, for a decent locking folder with nice ergonomics and a blade that takes a wicked edge.

Marttiini carbonsteel puukko - their economy version. Less than 20$ with wood handles and leather sheat (about 17$) and can be found with plastic handle and sheat for less than 10$ here (in knifecenter it is called M571). better all around handle than opinels, tad poorer blade geometry than opinels but can also be used much harder. While opinels are great light work cutters these puukkos are all around users.

The Normark American Hunter, made by EKA in Sweden as the Swede 92. Not too many on-line stores sell it. Two places that sell it are Discount Knives (~$22) and NDS.

Some of it's features are: folder, lock-back, 3.5" clip-point, sabre flat ground, 0.10" stock, Sandvik 12c27 stainless, brass frame covered by grippy rubber scales, can be easily disassembled, and almost as easily reassembled, not one-hand opening but I put on a do-it-yourself thumbstud, no pocket clip.

A pretty good knife.

Also, Browning knives. Especially their Presentation series: aus8, lockbacks, checkered zytel scales, some now have a pocket clip and a thumbstud, a variety of patterns and sizes, from small to large. And, well priced.

Pretty nice knives.
