Just over a year old. Red circle of death. :grumpy:

They are going to send me a prepaid box to ship it to them. Looks like I'll be with out it for awhile.

Get ya a Nyko intercooler-360 for your next one if you dont have it.
360's run notoriously hot. $20 -$25. Got mine at Best Buy

I hope they replace it with one with the Falcon mobo.

And that the Falcon one actually helps prevent RRoD.

From http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/RROD --
The Nyko Intercooler has also been reported to have caused a general hardware failure in a number of consoles, as well as scorching of the power AC input.[12] Microsoft stated that the peripheral drains too much power from the console and can cause the faults to occur, [13] and stated that consoles fitted with the peripheral will have their warranty null and void.[12]
Emphasis added.

I don't have an xbox, nor do I plan on getting one, but I have to say the engineering on this system seems rather poor. I went and read about the RROD and various warranty experiences.

When my brothers xbox360 died the second time,he got so sick of waiting for Microsoft to return it, that he bought a second one. Now he always has a spare sitting on the shelf in case one dies and has to be sent away for repairs. I guess he really likes those video games...... And yes, these things aren't really reliable.

It's my understanding that one of the causes of the RROD is the actual connection between the processor and the board. Because of all the ROHS requirements, the solder has to be different and it's causing cold-solder problems. The temperature swings cause the connections to go, and *POOF*, RROD. There's a guy out there somewhere who will re-solder the processor socket with good old-fashioned lead solder and that supposedly fixes everything.

My first 360 died early on (early 2007), but I had bought the 3 year extended warranty when I originally purchased it. The nice thing is that the warranty covers MS branded accessories which is sorta nice when the MS quick charge unit decided to try to start a fire at my house... The thing was whistling (high pitch frequency) and the two batteries were too hot to handle, I unplugged it and am now waiting on MS to send a replacement.

Playing Lego Star Wars : The Complete Saga with my four year old now and have had two complete lockups of the 360 while in the game... (BulletJBT is gamertag) Got Halo3 for Christmas and looking forward to it after Lego SW...

I am glad they are going to fix it or replace it. It is just over a year old. If they wouldn't fix it, I was going to trade my games and get a PS3.

I like many xbox games, but I think the quality of the console is lacking.

i had mine back and fixed in less that 1 week, after i had my red ring of death show up.

I too have had the RROD. The funny thing was that 2 other buddies and myself all bought 360's within a month's time. All of ours crapped out on us in the exact order of purchase:p

That said, mine died on me back in October. I had bought it in August the year before. I got mine back in less than 4 weeks. Instead of the refurbished ones that they were sending out, I got a new unit with a new serial number. It also runs quieter and has not locked up on me since (a common problem while playing Rainbow Six Vegas). Also, it came with an HDMI port. I don't use the HDMI, but it's nice to have it.

I have poured lots and lots and lots of time into COD4 in the last couple of months (over 4 days of play time added up), plus my brother in law played the single player straight through over the Christmas holiday (about 5 hours of non-stop play), and I played well over 3 hours at a time on Assassin's Creed and Kane and Lynch when I was off work. I have put this xbox 360 through the ringer more in the last 2-3 months than the one it replaced entire run time. Unless I just got lucky, it seems that MS sent me an improved unit in a reasonable amount of time.

I've had my 360 for well over a year now. I beat the crap out of it (leave it on for days on end, etc.) Still works perfectly fine. And to some of the above posts: I use the intercooler. It's never caused a problem and keeps the machine very cool. I compared it side by side with a friend's machine that didn't have it (but DID get the RRoD) and the difference in temp. was remarkable. I've left it on for over a week straight more than once. It still works like day 1. Either the intercooler does it's job in protecting the unit or I just got lucky. Considering I know a couple people with dead boxes after far less use non intercooled and mine is still perfect, I think I'll keep my cooler.

That being said, now when I start up COD4 next time the thing will short and fry my system lol.

I got the RRoD too, and I've been so irritated by it that I haven't bothered to send mine in to have it fixed. What a piece of junk. What is the failure rate on these things anyway? I've heard it's 33%, but it seems more like 50% or higher. Microsoft should have sucked it up and done a full-blown recall.

mine just outright stopped reading any disks and a disk cleaner hasn't worked. To the drawing board with the sodering iron :D

I hope to have the box to send it back soon. We called New years eve, so hopefully that is the reason I don't have it yet.

I am going into serious COD4 withdrawals.
