MYB October: If you think earning points is hard, try making up a good thread title

Just got back from a nice (but cold and windy) 35 mile road ride. Took me a while to dig out my winter gear.....every year the cold weather comes quickly and I'm thrown off making the transition. Still, worth digging through the winter cycling bin to get out. A least the sun was out - even if it was only 40°F.

11.6+26=37.6 BP

Rain from the am finally abated and I squeaked in my Tuesday ride, albeit a little shortened due to time constraints. 27 miles....and the sun even came out. Managed 19.2 mph average, with an avg. HR of 160. Not too shabby.

9+37.6=46.6 BP TTD.

Previous Monthly Total: 45.67 BP

Tuesday-Friday I did my normal 2.4 mile commute.

This week was super busy (online course I'm taking had huge project due), so I had to bail on futsal each time this week. However, today after turning it in, I was able to get out and do my normal bike ride.

Saturday: 17.6 miles. I almost set a PR on my loop... but not quite. 1hr 1 min 55 sec.

2.4*4 + 17.6 = 27.2 miles

27.2/3 = 9.07 BP

Monthly Total: 54.73BP

Got out on the MTB this afternoon after a pretty wet morning. Sun came out around 2.....and it was unseasonably warm. 14 miles; mix of cinder track access, a little pavement, and some singletrack. Haven't mountain biked in a while, 'Twas very fun.

The Urban Forestry Center, tidal creek (low tide) in the background:

Tough bit I used to make in my younger days....not so much today, LOL:

I was thinking about it, tho....but 20 year old bike and VERY rusty skills being the better part of valor.....no.

Totally jealous, Mike. Looks like an awesome place, and an awesome time!
Which StumpJumper is that? Mine's the powder blue Comp M2 from 1996.
I don't think I have as much travel in my fork as you, and neither of my brakes are disc.

I had a great weekend, but other than time spent under my cars very little of it was outdoors.

3 mile bike ride on Friday.
2.5 mile walk tonight.

40.5 BPs TTD.

That bike is a Frankenbike M2FS. Got it in 1994, IIRC, and the frame broke at the top tube/seat tube weld (quite a few of the original M2 bikes did) and was replaced in '96. Needless to say, 20 year old bike, so.....built my own wheels, replaced the POS original fork a few years ago and added a mechanical disc and upgrade the shifters/rear brake as as well as rebuild the front wheel with a new disc hub. Pretty much no original parts left on it. I'd love to get a fully suspended mount, but can't justify (or afford) it since I mostly road ride now, anyway.

+3 for yesterday = 50

Today was my early day at work, gave it a rest.

+2 for today. Baby up most of the night, slept in = 52

Edit: we were out of milk +1 for a walk to the store with a close to 30lbs toddler on my back =53

Nice-looking bike there, GSOM. Also a good-looking trail too, very woodsy and secluded-looking.

Thanks! I'll tell my bike you gave it a compliment ;). As for the "seclusion", it's an interesting place; I can ride over there in a few minutes from my house, and there are parts of the place that have that feel....but it's called the Urban Forestry Center for a reason. Route 1 is to the left (looking at the water), there's a landfill across the water and the high school is behind that. If I time it right, I can pause there and listen to the marching band practicing.

I usually duck in at the arrow (there's a little entrance trail); I think I took all the pictures from the circled spot. It's a cool place, fun to X-C ski there in the winter.

Hey - Good on ya for keepin' 'er runnin! I've heard about the M2 metal-matrix aluminum/ceramic composite material being a little fragile/brittle. In 2006 my Materials professor was sure it was all garbage and doomed to fail. 19 years on, with too much abuse and far to many spills, mine's still holding up fine. Fingers crossed...

Just a 1 mile walk tonight.
41.5 BPs so far for October.

IIRC, '94 was the first year for that material; mostly it wasn't the M2 itself that was breaking, but they were still figuring out the welding process. I saw a few breaks and they were all at the weld...seemed like whatever they were doing was weakening the tubes at the joint and that's where the breaks occurred. By '96 they seemed to have solved the problem. Unfortunately for me, the new frame didn't fit some of my old parts :( - most notably the Ringle Moby Post in TieDye that matched my hubs. Ah well. Progress.
