Myke Hawke Gear

His knives, not for me, but I recently watched both seasons of his show on netflix. In season 2, he gave a shout out to Ron Hood, that means alot to me.

What's with the two watches worn backwards? This guy has became a joke.

When I used to wear a watch, I wore it backwards like that
I found it more comfortable and when working I seemed to bang the watch crystal less then if I wore it the normal way
As for the knives I don't think they would be my cup of tea, but I would try them before I wrote them off

I got to meet him at the NRA Convention. Seemed like a real down to earth guy. Was willing to visit with anyone and everyone. I am not crazy about his knives design but they have a good solid feel in the hand and would definitely take one in a bind. After seeing him on TV though, I thought he would be bigger!!! Little fellow. (Same thing with Joe Teti from Dual Survival.......he is cut but a little guy).

In my previous job in security and training, I met several SF guys here in my country. One would be surprised how "average" these guys would seem, though quick, agile and athletic in build.

These knives are pretty crazy in design. But maybe they really do work for him? I don't know. I think he's similar to A Joe Teti in experience. More of a military tactical background versus bushcraft and minimal survival scenarios. But I'm just guessing.
I've taught Wing Chun and Escrima and have done some knife training. I'm no knife defense "expert" even though I've taught self defense. But parrying with little fold out guards is not going to be high on my list of knife self defense moves. Maybe they will help for hand slipping on the blade. I have done that once when cleaning fish in the rain. So stupid. Never happened again. But then again I was only 15 years old when that happened and was careless. Pain was a good teacher.
As far as Hawke as a person, all I know about him was his Black Belt TV interview. I've also watched a few episodes of "Man, Woman, Wild". It was ok except the first episode where he drinks his own pee out of a cactus he fashioned into a container. Then another episode they were cooking geckos on their knife blades in the fire. I'm no expert on ruining blade tempers, but I don't think it would help it any.

Here's the link to the black belt interviews ( 3 parts) if anyone's interested. The host asks him about his three watches he wears if I'm not mistaken. It's been quite some time since I watched it.

Wow, cool stuff. Now if Mom will just let me use her credit card......................................

I ran into Hawke at Blade in 2012. Even had my picture taken. I recognized him immediately as he was just wandering around. But yeah, he's not a big guy (like Teti). He's a bit weathered. But we all age differently.

I enjoyed his "Man Woman Wild" show, except for the smooching and honey parts. I really like the fire show filmed down in Louisiana. It was staged of course, but they really were in their shelter when the fire passed over them. The base actually called the producers and asked if they would be interested in doing a show when they were doing their burns. Watched his current show and it really isn't my thing. But I understand. There is only so much appeal for survival shows and these people are striving to be successful in a different kind of career and take advantage of whatever opportunities come up.

I quite like the look of the HASP. It's a bit like an updated CS shovel & with the sheath on, it looks like a mini shovel, which is quite handy for us lot living in countries that aren't as knife friendly.
I might have to get one & see how it holds up.
