alright we need some ideas for a schedule. last time it was a little cramped, but i think it turned out prety good with the start to finish tutorials of basic styles of knives. maybe this time we can do the same thing but focus on one style of knife, and allow more time for people to play around and have an open forge and such. if anyone has a better suggestion on what we could demo or an order of events please post it so we can all collaborate on what the days events will be.
of course we'll still have all the cutting comps and the food in the afternoon :) :D
so lets hear some ideas. what do he NECKA members wnat to see? what do the new guys want to see? what havent we covered yet? and some food suggestions too please.
thanks in advance

I'd like to suggest something on maker's stamps and methods of etching. I have never seen an etcher used.

just a thought,
dms

Do we need more forges and anvils???????

Do you think we could do a colaboration knife in a day? You make some damascus...I'll forge the blade.....someone could grind it...... someone could forge a guard.....etc...

I would like to attempt some damascus again....didn't have much luck with the stuff I made last time. :grumpy:

I have invited the owner of TUS Technologies to come and do a demo. Jurgen builds the etching machines and makes up stencils for a setup charge of $35.00.
His shop is only 4 to 5 miles from mine.

To do a collaboration knife out of Damascus in one day it's a little much in my opinion to do it correctly. We should do it out of 5160.
Mace, you should come up on a Saturday and we can do you up a billet.
Do you have a forge and anvil that you could bring?????

GrassHoppa, I have a suggestion SPELL CHECK. HEHEHE!!! :p :p

hahaha...i remember that! IG drank pp water :barf: :p i think the tent would be a great idea...just in case!

Hi Mike, heres a few ideas: Stabilizing wood, bone etc. Could put somestuff in the stabilizer at I.G.s a couple weeks ahead, then that day put in some and then take out the other to show how it works, finishing etc. Leather working for newbies, types of leather and tools needed then make a simple sheath. Might have some newbies bring some supplies and have experienced guys help them through the process, hands on experience with help right there. Bolsters- different types and ways to use them, fitting scales after putting them on. As a newbie, I can use all the help I can get. (I think I just set myself up for some abuse by I.G.)!

Being a rookie myself, I would'nt mind seeing anything, But one thing I had some trouble with was fitting my handle to the gaurd and spine without messing up work I had already done. I hav'nt figured out the correct order of doing things and had to do a couple of things twice. Very frustrating. By the time I was done I had mirror polished the blade three times and made some unfixable mistakes. Also I dont mind doing manual lobor to help set stuff up. I'm willing to help in any way.

Hey IG....5160 would be fine......and faster.....I was just thinking out loud

I can bring a forge(maybe two) and an anvil...........I could bring my leather work stuff too, if you want.....I'm no expert but I can make a sheath.

I would like to see some Japanese cord wrap(over ray skin) if someone does that.
Let me know if you want me to bring that stuff.
Mace

If we could get a stump to mount my Railroad track anvil that would take care of that. The forge from Jerry. Mace we still may need your setup. Also I don't think anyone is coming that does warps. Shawn Donly did the last demo and he is not coming.
Jay would I say anything???? Later. ;)
MickyMike No problem we will put you to work.
Don,t forget dog are welcomed too.
Also, females are free to accompany a attendee. :D

alright so far we have:
Sheath work
Bolsters
Forging ( we could make up a billet of damascus prior to the hammer-in to save time)
Guards
Damascus
IG drinking pp water :D
japanese cord wrap over ray skin
stabilizing
etching & stencils
Norm Harvey could do a coal demo, he doens't work with blades but he is a blacksmith and uses primarily coal forges
how about a photo set-up? anyone good with cameras?
we could work on a friction folder? or cover the basics for a demo

so lets get some more ideas and we can narrow them down and start looking for volunteers to do the demos

thanks guys

Dave that's no problem. You want to see how it is put together??? The welding of it is, just leave it in the forge for 1/2 hour or so and hit it with the square dies. :D

How big of a tent should we rent and probably chairs???
Got to remind everyone to bring safety glasses.

I"ll bring my digital camera, I'm okay at taking pictures till I've had a few dozen beers in me:D I'm sure IG will help me by drinking some of them before I get my hands on em.
I got a railroad track anvil that I'll bring, but not the stump, cause we can mount it on IG's flat head  and when we drive the nail in, it won't bother him a bit, and even if it does, it doesn't matter, because it won't bother me :D
