A couple of you wanted pics, so here they are. Naked blades, just the way I like to get them from John:)

This Bluegill is a sweet little knife.I'm going to try to get this one done first for my wifes birthday in just over a week...

I can't decide on whether to try to get the knot in the rosewood split/bookmatched in the center of the handle, or go with the ironwood, which is beautiful in it's own right.

Here is a group shot of my next three projects together for scale. The chef knife will be dressed in ebony wood so generously sent to me by KYenglish. Thanks again for that Peter!
The Old Timer will be dressed in the elk slabs that I ripped and am painstakingly sanding flats on...I think I also figured out how to get rid of the hardened pine tar embedded on it from the Pacific northwest forest this animal did his rubs in. These rounds were sent to me by a fellow knife mangler and friend...
So far I have the reducer bushings peined into the holes so I can use 1/8" pinstock on the elk...

that's all for now, will post update photo's along the way...

Thanks for looking!

Excellent stuff! I would go for the ironwood, that is a very nice looking piece.

they almost look too nice to dress but I can't wait to see them done. The ebony's better off in your hands anyhow :)

Thanks for the pics. Looking forward to seeing the finished knives!

Jeff

Nice! Can't wait to see the finished product.

You know, the tar rubs actually give the rounds a bit of character...

SB, I had thought the same thing...I'll see what they look like when they are attached and shaped down.

John, I knew You would say Ironwood ;)

Got the slab ripped, drilled, and roughed in, then glued the slabs to the blank with my magic glue ( top secret stuff here;) ! )

I think there are matched up pretty good!

Looking good. All three are going to be favorites of mine. I can easily see that.

Sweet stuff, Duane!

Thanks for the pictures - I am really anxious to see how the old timer comes out with the elk horn!

As Mack said, they all will be favorites!

best

Thanks for the votes of confidence! Ran into a snag when pinning, but managed to repair my oops so it doesn't even show. Had a pin get stuck halfways in, and had to drive it out...last time I will make the mistake of not beveling the drive side of a pin again:eek: scale crack, filled in by sanding across it to fill it with dust and thin CA to set the dust up:) more pics tomorrow hopefully...

Can't wait to see that bluegill finished! I'm thinking of getting another in either ebony or maybe walnut.

I love this picture. Since I have my Deerslayer in my hand right now, I can easily judge the sizes of the others. That Chef's knife is going to be awesome!!!

Thank You Mack! I am looking forward to getting the chef knife started, can't wait to get the ebony de waxed and sand the flats to see what the grain looks like...
I let a few Schrade fixed blades go a while back, after finding the Deerslayer. The blade has a very nice texture/patina to it from its former use, and the shape has a certain appeal to it. I was almost giddy when I acquired this one from a local pawnshop. I just hope that I do that one justice with the Elk slabs...
