Thanks to John and KYenglish I recently received this knife: http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php/1297470-Custom-for-fishiker It has yet to be named and I'm open to suggestions. Post here what you think it should be named? If your entry is chosen you will receive a Pouch/Mini-Knife plus a few extra PSK items: http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php/1290380-Pouch-and-Mini-Knife
To keep things interesting I'll give one of John's K-Tools to a random entry: http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php/1251685-K-Tools

The rules are simple.
1) Must live in the USA
2) Must post the reason you chose the name
3) What you like or don`t like about the knife

This is open to all BF members. Please limit your entries to one per person. I'll let it run for two weeks more or less depending on interest.
* I forgot to mention John has another one for sale - http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php/1301621-Sale-Starts-Now!

"Buckeye Bushcrafter"
The reason I chose that name was that the blade design lends itself to all manner of tasks, and the buckeye burl is beautiful.
I can't *see* any reason (personally) that anything would be unlikeable about it.
The actual hands on would determine how it fits my mitts.
Thank you!

In my head I've been calling it the Fishiker/Fish Hiker. I like it because it sounds catchy in my head, it represents the designer, And as far as what to like or dislike.....What is their to dislike? It is a beautiful knife as always.

In my neck of the woods, buckeyes are considered good luck. If you're out in the field setting up for a deer hunt and you find a nice buckeye you will bag a great one.

Henceforth, that knife will be the "Bushlucky".

Nice ring to it, eh?

The burl itself is dark and rich, and I think 8.25" is about perfect. Well done.

Appalachian Trail Knife, in the tradition of place names for JK knives and the Utilitarian Kephart influence

John used my suggestion of Sauk Trail for one of his Knives, it's an actual place name from this area. I thought that an actual place names from your area might be nice.
it could also just be The AT, as the hikers call the trail
Your knife reminds me some of the Herters Improved Bowie that John used to offer, (albeit shorter), which I own and find to be a wonderful woods companion.

My choice in name
"The Brook" or "Brook", meaning a small stream or creak.

I like the simple no nonsense design of the Knife, beautiful grind.
and of course the knife maker. :)

How about the "Endeavor"
because it looks to be a working knife and you will be using it to attempt to accomplish a goal.

I'd name it the Fundamental because that's the kind of tool it is and why I like it. It is just big enough for me to consider it a full-size knife so it'll handle just about anything you would need a knife to do, but it is no more than that. It is refreshingly simple and free from all the unnecessary features you see on too many knives these days. There is nothing extraneous about it. That's what it's really about anyway - learn and practice the fundamentals and you should be alright.

I would call it the Bush Hiker It also reminds me of a bush craft style blade and I feel the designer deserves a little acknowledgment as well, plus you are usually out for a hike when you have a knife. I love the knife but as others have stated I would have to feel it in hand to pass the final judgment.

not an entryfor the prize but...

"Bushlore"
it sounds good, also describes that I think it'd be great at.
everything :)...I like the tarditional aspect that has been melded into the new design, also the point is strong and utilitarian, plus the handles designed with comfort in mind.

Interesting idea for a giveaway. I hope you find a name you like for the knife :).

And yes, I am blatantly just here because you posted it in general. I have heard of JK knives though, just never really looked into them.

First off. As an "outsider", here is what I think of the knife.

  • I'd personally be slightly worried about the handle being slippery (with only the one photo, its hard to tell how contoured the scales are). The handle shape, mixed with the very small finger indent/guard, is why I'm worried about it.
  • I love how close the hand can be to the blade (although, I might make a small sharpening choil right up against the handle, instead of that flat spot, just because I like to be able to sharpen to the very edge)

Looking at the names of your other knives names (was poking around in the photos thread), you seem to favor somewhat descriptive names. So I've been trying to think up some along those same lines. And man, its hard to only give one response to this type of question. Its so different than normal brainstorming where you just spit out a bunch, and then go from there. Also, four of the names I came up with are apparently already taken by other production knives (Bushlore, Woodlore, Woodlaw, Camplore), so I had to scrap those ones :/.

EDIT: Plus I see one of those was mentioned while I was writing my post :/.

Bushcrafters Belt Knife: Its a very traditional bushcraft pattern (slightly clipped drop point, scandi grind, natural scales, small guard). It is also a very descriptive name(for those that know knives), they should know what to expect when they hear the name. Its also easy to say/remember, and could easily be made into an acronym (JK Knives BBK).

Anyway, I wish you the best of luck with the new model :).

"Stick Bait", like a Rapala or zara spook, due to its shape. It also doubles as a woods based name since I bet it carves like a dream.
Great idea for a GAW, and glad to see it is some JK swag going out.
