Nano Oil, Finally The Search Is Over!

Svs, you should get a freebie, getting lots of knuts to buy into this magical oil :) Or are you working for them already! :)

I picked up some nano oil recently as well. I can tighten my pivot all the way and still have the blade move smoothly. Top notch stuff!

I ordered straight from the company. It took a while to get the nano oil and it came in a bubble wrap envelope. The metal tip was bent into an s because of this. Other than those issues I have had nothing, but good experiences with the product itself.

I use CRK flourinated grease or Tuf-glide. How does nano oil compare to those? Do you apply it like Tuf-glide or do you have to disassemble the knife? Is it odourless or stinky? Is it much different performance-wise (for knives) compared to the other two?

Have any of you nano oil users ever used militec oil? if yes, how does it compare, i love my militec but am almost out, and use it on both my guns and knives with very very good success. Would be willing to switch if its truly is that much better

They have the half once in size stock.

I see that... I just hate to cough up that much cash on volume that large of a rather pricey oil that I've never tested. Hell, I'm still on my first little can of Eezox, and I've had that for years. Drop at a time, 8ml goes a LONG ways!

someone on that spyderco thread said that it wasn't as good as ballistol... but most others said that it was the best thing they've used to date. does anyone have any input on this?

Maybe I got a counterfeit tube (got it on amazon) but I simply am not getting the magical results everyone else seems to be getting. Not saying it's a bad lubricant but I haven't seen any gains over militec, gun butter, weapon shield or other oils/greases I have. Do you have to disassemble and degrease first? I just squeezed out a drop over the pivots.

Like any lubricant performance is conditional. I'm 90% sure given that they use a 90nm particle size lubricant that what you're getting is 90nm Nano-Tungsten Disulfide (which is about 350 dollars for 50 grams of powder) in some kind of carrier oil. These particles are about the size of the steel's grain, and smaller than mirror polished finish peaks and valleys. The lubricant solids basically attach themselves to the metal surface and in any microscopic crevices and create an anti-wear low friction surface. Most of the other lubricants you've mentioned do the same thing using different methods. Its particle size however is probably smaller than the lubricant molecules in something like Militec 1, and wierd stuff happens at that size, usually performance increases at a faster rate than expected. Tungsten disulfide is one of the slipperiest and most durable anti-wear solids I know of, but depending on the application you get to the point where better than "good enough" doesn't get much more in the way of results.

Kudos to Nano oil and Christian from me too. I use it in all of my 30+ folders and it's just as the OT wrote. Christian even asked me if I was going to use for a gun or a knife and then suggested the appropriate oil for it.

I was using and still use Tuff-Glide, on carbon rich steels, before nano oil. In my experience Tuff-Glide is not even close. One of the best parts about nano oil is you can combine it with other oils/substances. I'd make a mix of both and use it if you like Tuff-glide.

I can tell you that I have been carrying 1 Strider for over a month now, rare for me, and now that it is broken in and has nano oil on it, I can flick it open with my middle finger. I have never been able to do that with any knife. Not only that if I relieve all pressure on the lock bar, I can swing the blade back and fourth.

Needless to say, I'm impressed. I have 8+ ounces of Tuff-Glide that I will be using in combination with this stuff.

I use ballistol on all of my Glocks, but I have not used it on any knives. I will have to try this. Honestly, it would have to work REALLY good for me to want to switch. Ballistol STINKS! I wouldn't want to carry something around everyday that smelled like ballistol. The same goes for Tuff-Glide. That stuff doesn't smell good at all!

I got a tiny size syringe and needle at the feed store to apply it in tight places. If I get noticeably better results on my knife pivots,I'll be applying it to my firearm actions as well.

Ok, ok, I couldn't take it any more. Ordered up the half-ounce bottle from Howe's. The price was a bit steep (cripes, I thought GAS was expensive!) but a half-ounce bottle should last me quite a while. Wonder how that'd work on reloading gear...

I got some of this oil a few days ago. I adjusted several of my folders to eliminate all trace of blade play. They'd been lubed with several different kinds of oil including Militec, Ballistol, Dri Slide, and Weapons Lube. I dissassembled another one (not sure of what it was lubed with) cleaned and lubed with the Nano oil. I thought it felt smoother but could not tell for sure. On the others I asked two other people to judge the "before and after." I applied some Nano Oil to each of the four. The universal comment at the improvement in smoothness was "WOW!"

I put a few drops on some of my flashlights that have aluminum bodies and cap with O rings. WOW again.

I put some on the slides of my Colt .45 autos. WOW! again.

I'll be using Nano Oil for everything that moves from now on.

Can you guys tell me how long it took to receive your oil after purchasing? I read a few different places that it takes quite some time. Hope not picked me up some tonight

It took about 3-4 weeks for me. Most of that time was me just waiting for my order to be shipped.
