Nano-oil for knife pivots

I recently found out about Nano-Oil and tried it. I immediatly noticed I could tighten the pivot screw tighter than I used to be able to still leaving the blade moving smooth and easy. This makes the knife feel more solid and coule reduce blade play. I've had knives that if you tighten the pivot enough to stop horizontal blade play the blade wouldn't move easily. Using Nano-Oil and tightening the pivot tighter you can reduce or eliminate blade play. I'm not saying it will eliminate all blade play known to man but it'll help. It is the best oil I've used. There are great lubricants out there that I haven't tried though. I just wanted to let anyone who hasn't heard of or tried Nano-Oil that it is available. I saw it first on Deal spot removed. I recommend trying it. More detailes are on their web site.

I just got the 25cc bottle yesterday and tried it on a few knives. The decrease in friction is quite noticeable. I thought the ZT 0560 and Kershaw were fast out of the box but now they just FLY out!

Have you tried other dry-on lubes that you could compare it to?

I don't know about the OP but I dont use dry lubes

How would you compare this to flourinated grease?

Totally different in my opinion. Flourinated grease reminds me of that thick oil crude you put in high mileage engines. Nano-Oil just makes the pivot slicker than snot.

So if I buy some of this and go swap the flourinated grease in my 0560 for the nano-oil, it will be an appreciable difference?

I'd love to say yes but I'm not responsible if the end user doesn't feel a difference. I have a custom flipper on roller bearings that was "packed" with grease. I applied one drop of nano-oil to each side and there was an appreciable difference in the effort to get it to lock(once past the detent).

I'd have to say no but you only need a drop per side so there is very little chance of it dripping out unlike mineral oil, CLP, etc

Their site says it evaporates to leave 'nano bearings' ("will evaporate after its duty"), so it sounds like a dry-on, unless I misunderstand

My experience is that the 5 weight Nano-Oil evaporates after some time while leaving the lubricating nano-material in place.
For this reason (and because it's almost as thin like water, good for creeping between tight production tolerances) i use it very sparingly on Microtech automatics, as well as for loosening stuck nuts & bolts.
The standard 10 weight and the much thicker 85 weight don't evaporate noticeably.

Which weight (or mixed) do you find yourself using on regular knives?

For regular folders i only use the 10 weight, works perfectly.
Nano-Oil is not only the best friction reducer i have found to date, it also works longer than anything else i've tried.

Hello everyone. This is my first post here at Blade Forums. I found this thread while search for some other items and just wanted to comment on Nano-Oil. I will try my best not to sound like a shill. i do not work for Nano-oil nor do i sell Nano-oil. I am just a happy user of the stuff. LOL
I collect flashlights and was trying almost every type of lube i could think of. Eventually someone pointed out nano-oil and i gave the 10 weight it a try. Immediately i loved the idea of not having a thick goopy grease. No more cat hair and other gunk getting stuck in the threads. Many of the lights i have are aluminum threads and i also noticed a major decrease in the amount of galling from the constant use of the threads.
Fast forward a bit i started to find MANY around the house uses for the stuff. I used it so much that my friends started to comment that i was going to start putting nano-oil on my breakfast cereal. LOL I eventually ordered the other weights of the oil as well. Since i liked the idea of using the 5 weight as a CLP. I found that i now use the 5 and 85 weights the most because you can mix to two to create your own viscosity.
Naturally i tried this stuff on my knifes and it does work very well. I lube up the knife, actuate the blade and locks several times and then use compressed air to blow off any extra. To give you an idea how slick this stuff is i will tell you a story about a Benchmade 275 Adamas that i recently purchased. I carried the Adamas for about a month straight out of the box from benchmade. No issues everything was dandy. One day i decided to do a lint cleaning on the knife. So wiped it down, put a few drops of nano-oil 5 weight, actuated the mechanics, then compressed-air the extra out. The very next time i pulled the knife from my pocked i noticed that the blade opened about 10 degrees on it's own! I then pulled the knife a few more times and noticed the same thing. I now have to pull the knife very slowly in order to prevent the blade from moving on its own. WOW! here is a case where i might need to use a lower quality lube so the knife stays closed.

Good luck.

to use nano oil on a knife, do you need to disassemble it and apply the oil directly to the pivot and washer, or would applying it from the side of a knife work well enough?

Not sure if you are supposed to disassemble but I didn't on mine. Good results do far.
