Nano oil Vs fluorinated grease.

I searched for a similar thread but didn't find one. I thought this has been discussed before but I'll discuss it again.

I'm doing a comparison between nano oil weight 10 and Chris Reeves's fluorinated grease. Both knives were broken down and cleaned thoroughly, both knives have perforated washers. I used the nano oil on a Large Sebenza and the fluorinated grease on an Umnumzaan. Both knives are smoother than they have ever been. Both lubes are really great. I'm thinking that the Umnumzaan with the grease is slightly smoother. It's almost too close to call. I've had to have my kids work both knives and they also lean toward the grease. So now ill pay close attention to which holds up better over time. These are definitely the two best lubes I've found so far for my CRK's.

I've never given in to the flouro grease but nano oil is hard to beat.
It quickly put my other lubes to shame.

To really improve the validity of the test, re clean and switch the lubes to the other knives and see what you get.

Really good idea. I'm thinking ill give it a month. Carry each one every other day then switch the lubes.

I've tried nano oil, CRK grease, BlueLube, etc...

The best are CRK grease and nano oil. The difference is the nano oil lasts longer than the grease. The CRK grease collects dirt like crazy and starts getting gritty after a little while.

Very interesting to know! Do any of yall have experience with how these different products work under different conditions (i.e. being wet, salt water, sand, dirt, mud, pocket lint)? I was actually just debating taking down my Sebenza to clean, but I'd need to select and purchase a good lubricant first.

I keep putting off trying Nano Oil but I think I just need to break down and try some.

No I don't. That's why I'm going to carry these for a month so see how they perform long term.

I had to see for myself.

Ordered some Nano oil tonight. I love the fluorinated grease, so we shall see.

You won't be disappointed. I should note, I used way less nano oil then fluorinated grease.

Nano Oil is the Slick50 of knife lubes.

On bronze bushing equipped knives, I use a tiny amount of whatever I have, usually BM's bluelube or Triflow. On my Sebbies, I will use a tiny amount of Flor. grease.

I'm a nano oil believer too. Now that I've started to use CRK grease I use a combo of the two. Strangely not on my CRK knives, but on my heavier blades. I've had better luck with just nano oil on my CRK's. The grease slows down the action on my CRK's too much for my liking.

I can certainly appreciate the CRK grease but to be honest I don't even know where mine is! I use Miltec1 and MMC (Molecular Metal Conditioner) and really like these products.

Are there any brick and mortar type shops that typically sell any flourinated grease or any of these better oil? I think I have a bottle of Reel butter somewhere I use on all of my old Abu reels and of course WD40, but I'm not sure I have or have seen any of these others and I'm not quite sure where to look.

I have used the CRK grease exclusively on my sebenza. I also used a tiny bit on my XM but with the nylon washers, I am not sure the effectiveness. Both are super smooth. I am running low on CRK grease and before I run out, I decided to order some of this Nano Oil (10 weight) and will see if there is any discernible difference. To be honest, I really don't know how on earth my sebenza could get any smoother unless I completely loosened the pivot but it will be worth a try:) If I didn't have a sebenza to compare it to, I would probably say the same thing about the XM. My guess is that the Nano Oil will be slightly better for the XM and i will see no improvement on the sebenza. We will see when I get the nano oil in a week or so.

I use CRK grease for pivots/washers, but I like to put a little nano-oil on the Detentball and path. I'm talking just a speck:thumbup: Less is more with Nano-oil its small molecules can creep in the tiniest of crevices. Nano-oil works as intented and from what I'm told you have to abrade it off to remove it, great stuff IMHO.

Per CRK, their lube and pivot/washer system are designed to go hand in hand. That's why they sell it. The grease not only lubricates but protects the pivot/blade/washer assembly from corrosion. Per CRK, you should be able to go months, up to a year, depending upon use conditions, before cleaning and relubrication is needed.

If you put some on the Detent path, I can guarentee you will see less friction there. It seems to work on the ceramic on my Zaan and 25 b/c they're crazy smooth as well. I'm definately a believer! You guys make me want to put some in the Pivot now but I just did a cleaning and greasing on my CRK's right before I got my Nano-Oil. I guess there is always next time.

I got better results with the 85 wt Nano Oil than the 10 wt. YMMV though. I definitely noticed a difference putting some in the detent path.
