Nano oil Vs fluorinated grease.

I went to several web sites looking for Nano oil and was shocked at the price for such a little squirter.

Does anybody know what's in that stuff that makes it so expensive?

I got better results with the 85 wt Nano Oil than the 10 wt. YMMV though. I definitely noticed a difference putting some in the decent path.

I read that the 85wt is just a lot thicker. Is it easier to work with?

It is a lot thicker, but I prefer it because its more like a grease, which I like for folder pivots. It just feels smoother to me. Almost hydraulic if you like it like that. There is a Nano Grease now too which I'd like to try.

Another fan of Nano 10W. I do not dissasemble the knives - they are too new - but rather squirt a drop or two into the pivot area and open and close the blade a few times. Really facilitates the action.

I thought this too. Then I bought two 5g tubes of Reeve grease and my feelings changed. I felt/feel like I got a tiny amount of grease and spent just as much. I'm almost done with one tube of Reeve grease and I still have over 3/4 of the .5 ounces of nano oil I bought. I've had the nano oil for 6 months and have used it on 8-12 knives and I've had the grease for 2 months or so and used it on 5-7 knives.

I will be the first to say that I'm a liberal luber. Not so much that it oozes out of the pivot, but definitely more than a dab. Maybe grease just isn't good for the way I apply lube.

Well just ordered some 10w to try out on my Hondurans when they get here. Being wanting to give this stuff a try. I let you guys how I like it.:D

Teflon based lubes work great with titanium surfaces.
I recommend Finish Line Flouro Grease. Very similar to Christo Lube (CRK Grease) but you get
twice as much for the same price and it comes in a syringe with applicator tip.
Krytox is another great teflon based lube that performs exceptionally well.

Heres some info I took from that flash light website on this type of grease/ lube

""Krytox: One of the best lubes out there. This is a fluorinated grease that is very non-reactive and is safe for just about any application. This lube works exceptionally well on Ti lights. It is available in many different varieties, but the two most popular here are straight grease and a mix of 50/50 GPL101 oil and GPL201 grease. The grease can be purchased from the Marketplace in small quantities, and 50/50 can be purchased from the Sandwich Shoppe. It has been discovered that the sodium nitrate additive in the anti-oxidation varieties of Krytox can reduce the wear-resistance of Krytox on Ti and bare Al. The difference is small, but it is something to make a note of.
Krytox Re-Brands: Finish Line Extreme Flouro, Loctite PFPE Grease, Chris Reeve Knifes Flourinated Grease

I believe nano-oil is petroleum based and per CRK does not work as well with titanium. But from the reviews in this thread looks like it works plenty fine for most.

I'll be trying Nano for my folders...I've been unimpressed with everything else I've tried.

I got some samples of Krytox threw work and the grease is great on flashlight(o-rings), but its to thick for my sebenzas. Slows the action way down.

Yea, it is thick but they also make a 50/50 grease and oil mix that is less viscous.
I think its all preference as well. Some like the hydraulic action that a thicker grease will give
while others like a very slick and fast action that a thinner oil would give.

I'll tell you one thing that Krytox last forever on Flashlight threads. I don't flick my knifes but I like them smooth. I have to look into the 50/50 mix. Got a number for it?

Heres the website you can purchase it from. I haven't tried this version so couldn't give a first hand account of how it performs on knives.

Edit.....Ooops. Forgot can't link to non paying members. Visitor message sent :)

I tried mixing mine with PTFE oil and it didn't mix well. I contacted my rep and they said they wouldn't recommend mixing it with anything. Maybe I'll try a different oil! Thanks!

I use Nano Oil on all my knives, and am a firm believer in it! I predict this little oiler will last quite some time, as not much is needed. And the precision tip helps apply it exactly and perfectly where you want it. I also use it on my guns, so it's a win win!!

I use Krytox brand lube (I think that is what CRK Grease is based on) & Nanoil both are great for high end knives
Super Lube is great too (I use this one for flashlight threads and low end knives)

I'm thinking about getting the 85 wt...is there a reason I SHOULDN'T?

I hear it can be hard to apply because it is so viscous. I don't have any personally, but I have heard the owner suggest slightly warming the bottle to make it easier to apply. I read that over on Spyderco's forum.

I was thinking of using the grease on the washers and the nano oil on the pivot bushing.

Any combo of these lubes is great!
