I was considering one of these as a back up to my back up but after reading this I may have to go with a HEST and a ferro rod in the handle...great idea.

Nice review, MW. Have you tested the rod's ability to spark after the salt water immersion?



I emailed the designer about adding an additional chamber to stow tinder a few months ago. He said he had various ideas in the works but wouldn't commit to tinder storage.

They will still spark after immersion but will just completely disolve if left in long enough. Just having one in a sweaty pocket for a day cost me a low percentage of my rod and a half hour clean up time.

Good, I've been bugging him about that since day one. He told me others had been voicing that too. If you like the idea guys keep it up and we'll wear him down

I do both...I have a ferro rod the same size as the nano's ferro rod in the handle of my hest...but always being in my pocket or around my neck makes...I use the nano as my constant, and my last line.
