Native 5 ....why so expensive?

Unfortunately I think this is true for knife knuts. For everyday folks, it's expensive.

It s verging on expensive for run of the mill knife nuts like me. For 150.00 I look for at least cts xhp steel, and even m390 sometimes on sale. At least I used to. One year ago.
Maybe I can get a big raise. Or work more.

it's just the nature of the beast... low cost/high automation knife makers like mora/opinel/etc have the lowest cost end saturated

anyone going above that level tends to have limited production capacity, so they don't have to worry about the majority of people affording their knives, only the 2-5% of population that normally would be their target market

sal has shown the knifemaking world the right way to do it; small batch runs of good quality knives priced about 500% over cost, then rotate & repeat... everyone from cold steel (stormcloud in 20cv is msrp $300) to crkt (homefront & crossbones
in m390 is msrp $300) are playing the 'me too' game

(personally, I won't play that game with them, but it seems enough people do)

Well, they're great knives. I currently EDC a FRN-handled Native 5 in S35Vn and recently gave each of my two sisters the pink-handled one in S30V, which they loved.

I’ve got both and would take the Native G10 over PM every time. The PM is a nice enough knife but I’ve never understood the cult status it seems to have. The Native is as good / better in a more compact size.

Part of the reason for the cost is that the Native is made in the USA. The other part is that it is fairly competitive with similar quality folders. I was really impressed with the first Native I purchased maybe 10 years ago. It was and is a really smooth lock back knife. I have the G-10 version too as I like G-10. It is a real solid knife.

I also could never really understand the love for the PM2. I like the PM3 better.
