Natural material shelter, Philippine lowlands

Hee hee. I've made the trip between Manila and Dagupan (and points beyond) many times! Baguio is (was at the time) temperate and comfortable during my stay! Though I think we rented a van for that one.

Still, I remember the vendors who climb on the Philippine Rabbit bus to sell boiled quail eggs, corn and suman. Pay to use toilets. 10 pesos, I think. Pinatubo is I think on the same route. Houses half stuck in lahar - volcanic ash.

We got stuck in a flood once, too.

FWIW, some of the most hospitable people I've ever encountered.

Small world, huh?

If you ever get the chance to go, don't skip Corrigedor. I missed Bataan completely. Too bad.

Oh and the scuba was great. I believe that was Batangas. I've never been off of Luzon.

Hospitable is the understatement of the year.

We are already making plans for the next visit in two years. We are thinking about going further up the coast to Vigan, and maybe go south to see Mayon. And I would really like to go to Bohol to visit the chocolate hills.

Every time the bus would stop for any length of time, someone would come on board to sell something to eat. All kinds of foods....

Hey there! Am in Cebu City and all these comments are great to hear. glad to hear that your experiences were all good in the country.
never noticed or appreciated the bamboo houses like that. but yeah that is still how a lot of them are made. The more remarkable ones are more up north in Ilocos and Baguio and more south in Quezon Province.... bigger as well. And you should check out the coconut palace where everything is made form the coconut tree... Glad to hear that there are a lot of Pinoys or half Pinoys in the forums!

where in the Philippines are you originally from?... I grew up in Tomay (Bahong barangay), Benguet, close to Baguio City, and spent lots of time Bakun and Kapangan... it's awesome seeing these pictures you've taken... gets me all sentimental and whatnot...

p.s. if you have any more pictures of Baguio, I'd love to see them posted up here as well :)

Well, for your sake, I'll put up a few more. First, some of the fried bananas that my son just loved:

And a picture taken out of the bus window on Kennon road. This was the best I could do, the bus was blazing down the winding road (see the curve ahead of us?)
