Nearly 1 year and Gravelface still has my knives
I hate that I have to bring another Gravelface thread into GBU, but it seems like the only way to get Jason Anderson (Gravelface) to send my knives back to me. He's got a Matt Lamey chopper that I sent him for a sheath, and a Bill Siegle that he wanted to buy but hasn't paid for. I know he's had some tough going in his life in the past half year or so, and I've given him ample time and slack, and he keeps giving me promises but doesn't deliver.
This is the chronology of events.
• I put up the Siegle for sale here: http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=537925 . Gravelface PMs me and after some quick back and forth we agree on a $225 base price, but that he would offset some of that cost by making a sheath ($40 worth) for a Matt Lamey chopper I have. We also agree to also offset the cost of sending the Lamey and its sheath back to me. So the original deal is $225 - $40 = $185, then minus whatever shipping.
Since there's no way to know beforehand how much the postage would be for him to send the Lamey and its sheath back, we agree on my sending both knives to him and he would make the sheath for the Lamey. Then he would subtract the $40 and the shipping cost back and toss a money order in the box with the Lamey + sheath.
• He received both the Lamey and the Siegle on March 24, 2008.
• I check in by email in late April. I learn he went through some personal and family tragedies and needs more time. That's more than okay by me.
• I start to see in the summer people having problems with his trades in this forum. I get a bit concerned but still put my trust in his high positive feedback. I also learn from here that he's got a war injury, what it is I didn't learn and it's not my business to ask, but I also take that into consideration to give him time.
• I check in by PM and email again in August to see how things are going. I didn't pressure him, I just wanted to get an update. He wrote back saying he had forgotten all about our deal, and that it's better to call him instead since he didn't check into Bladeforums that much anymore. He was apologetic for forgetting and offered to pay the $185 remainder for the Siegle up front and that he would get to doing the sheath for the Lamey. I wrote back and said I didn't need the money up front, the original plan of sending payment and knife+sheath is fine with me.
• He drops me a PM a month later ( late September) and said he burned out his heat gun so have to get another.
• In late October I see 2 threads where people got the sheaths from Gravelface. One of them mentions it was a quick transaction. This got me a bit miffed. How come he had time to do a quick sheath for this guy but hasn't gotten to mine? But I keep thinking give him some slack because of his personal troubles.
• I give him a call in November to see how things are going. Got his answering machine so I left a message. He emails next day saying he's been pressing sheaths again and will do mine next, and that he appreciated my patience.
• Two weeks later he emails and says he's about to finish the sheath, and how would I like payment. I respond with my paypal address, but I unbeknownst to me I mistakenly mistyped it by leaving out a letter. This was December 1.
• More than a month later I still get nothing. So I call again January 27 leaving a message asking how things are going and that I was getting impatient. He responds back by email saying he sent payment but it was refused/canceled. He apologized for the time it took and offered to include another sheath for free if I have a Busse that needed one. I look into it and find that I had mistyped my paypal address, so I apologized and sent him the correct address and told him he can either try sending it again or wait by sending a money order with the Lamey and sheath. I also wrote that I didn't want an extra sheath, I understood he had been going through tough times so I was fine with the original deal and nothing more.
• February 15. I still haven't gotten my Lamey and sheath + money order, nor paypal. From where we last left off I was under the impression that he was just about finished with the sheath and so could finish our deal. So I email him asking for a date that he can send my stuff, and if he can't follow through with the trade then just send me back both my knives and he owes nothing.
• I don't hear back from him so 3 days later ( Feb 18)I call him and said please send me the stuff next week. I also send an email repeating the message I left on the phone. In both I said that if he can't get the original deal done then please just send me back my two knives.
• I haven't heard from him since then.
I've heard and read that Jason's gone through some tough times, and I'm totally willing to give him slack but by now I can only come to the conclusion that he's just stringing me along for whatever reason. At this point I just want my knives back.
