Neck Knife For Under $50

I think many of the suggestions offered have been great, but I've found that I prefer a finger hole over a regular handle for neck carry.

Of course, that's just me, but I find it easier to get/index than a reg. handle & I've been neck carry for many yrs. for both work & off-duty. While you mentioned you didn't want to spend $60 for an Emerson La Griffe, I'd say either look around or save for the extra $10 & get one.

While I've carried many of the neck knives mentioned, my top 3 are:

1. HAK (HideAwayKnife): Used to be no problem to get one, but don't know about now. I currently have a Joe Brum S30V tiger striped model, but there's nothing wrong with the Utility model in 440C.

2. Emerson La Griffe: Not much to say about it, except that it's easy to carry & quick to index/get.

3. Spyderco SPOT: A little larger than the previous 2, but also a little more comfortable to use, if you actually use your neck knife & not just have it for SD. Getting harder to get, too, because it's been discontinued for some time & is a Spyderco. I believe they've come out with a new Swick, but it's even larger than the SPOT.

As I mentioned, these are just my opinion only. As for "bang for the buck", the Buck Hartsook is a great deal & will work in SD situations, IMHO. I don't know if there's a lower model, but the one I had was in S30V & I think it was around $20 shipped, you can beat that!

Good luck with whatever you get.

Its already been said a lot, but... RAT Izula

The Spyderco Swick is slick and only $40, but you will need a sheath for it.

I have a CRKT Dogfish,it likes to fall out of the sheath on its own. Also I have a Tops Mini-Pitbull,unlike the Dogfish one must tussel with it to get it out. Still a nice knife and you are not going to lose it,just dont use it with the belt clip,or then you will lose it,sheath and all..I also have a Buck Hartsook, this likes to plane fall out when it wants. Then I have a Becker Necker (pre Kabar), best of the bunch that I own listed here.

maybe a little bit over 50$ but well worth it IMHO

Are the Emerson Lagriffe's really worth it?

Depends on what you mean by being worth it & your use/expectations. If you're wanting it for a utility type knife that you'll possibly use on a regular basis for other things, then I'd say it's not worth it, & probably not the right neck knife. If it's for SD (Or as a last ditch weapon), then yes, I think they're worth it & very useful. Having a hook like blade & chisel grind, it was designed to be a SD knife, not a utility/EDU knife, IMHO.

I notice most people seem to like reg. knives with handles vs holes in them (Like the HAK, La Griffe, SPOT, Swick, etc). If you can make do with a very small FB, Nemesis's Hellion is a great deal, IMHO, especially if you can get the older ones in S30V (Newer ones are in VG-10, IIRC, which isn't a bad thing either). I really liked mine & used it quite a bit, which really isn't what I use (Or expect) out of a neck knife. It ended up getting replaced with another HAK (A Joe Brum S30V version).

I ended up picking up mine for about $50 from someone on the Forum, but BMs 210/211 Activator's are very good, too, & they can actually be used as a utility knife W/O bothering anyone. At 5.5" OAL with a 2" blade, it's not bad at all. I have the D2 version with Winewood scales, but the more popular one is the S30V version with duel color G-10 (The white looking like CF, IIRC).

Thanks guys. I decided to take the plunge and get an Emerson Lagriffe. I just heard too many good things about them and it has everything I want in a neck knife.

Given the quality and the potential utility of the design, I feel the Emerson La Griffe is worth the money. Consider it also for women. It is small, which is good in that women's hands tend to be smaller than men's. It has the finger hole for retention, and women may not have the experience with knives to hold them as well. The simple hooked point is useful for small tasks including ripping seams, cutting yarn, and opening packages and envelopes.

Self-defense? This is one of those knives that teaches you what it's for the first time you hold it. :) For a more utility oriented small necker, I like the Simonich Bitteroot. But the Hellion is a close match for it.

For a nice small one, Cold steel's super edge doesn't get in the way, but's always there.

I tried to get "The Snitch" and it's still on backorder. Any ideas where they are at and who has the best price.

I've gotten quite a few customs from the knife makers for sale area here. Take a look around there for some good deals.

All the 30$ ones are on back order. If you keep looking you should be able to find one for around 60$
Knife outlet has them in stock for around 35$

I like Brad Fairall and his "Ace" necker. D2 steel, nice size with good control. Mine is always around my neck. If you want a small fixed blade, i'm with most of these guys regarding the awesomeness of the Izula.
