Neck knife people, I want to hear from you.

I find a neck knife is convenient to slip on, stays out of the way, is there when you need it. However, if it weighs more than 1 oz., I find it gets irritating over long periods of time. I would say my Cold Steel Bird and Trout is my only knife I would carry on my neck.

What is your weight limit? Which knife do you carry? Any tips or tricks?

My neck knife is less than 1 oz -it's titanium by Raimund Lhotak and at around $300, including sheath, it's very reasonable for a custom 1 of 1. I have an extra, not in wood, if anyone is interested...........

I have routinely neck carried an ESSE 3, RAT (pre-ESEE) 4, Morakniv Garberg, Battle Horse Smoky Mountain Razor, and a few others in the same weight class or bigger including an AdV Tac Butcher (folder). The tip/trick is choosing to get used to it.

I used to carry my wallet contents around my neck. Over time I started getting headaches. When I stopped neck carry, the headaches went away.

For bigger knives carried out in the open, I know you can wrap the cord around the collar of your shirt, which makes a big difference.

You can also use a larger lanyard, like braided paracord to help distribute the weight over a larger surface.

I tried, but could never bring myself to wear a sharp knife around my neck, too close to my heart. I just don't trust 100% in the sheaths. I tried the CS Bird and Trout and the Mora Eldris.
Now, I do wear sometimes a larger paracord loop holding small keychain items (tritium fob, small flashlight, SAK, pry bar, keys) that I wear diagonally, like a messenger bag.

Yes, I think people refer to that as "baldric" carry

Not sure the weight of it off hand and want to put a proper handle on it but I have an ESEE Izula but it is light enough and has a good sheath and fit in hand for me. I don't often wear it as a neck knife but that is more do to less occasions where I want a neck knife.

Izula is a classic, for sure. Do you have the Izula or the Izula II? The original is 2 oz. and the II is an ounce heavier.

I do this sometimes, for many reasons ,in preference to neck carry .

Never could stand the feeling of anything around my neck . Hated ties . Had to wear clip-ons when forced .

Even with a break-away , I feel like it's a noose around my neck . Saying "Please strangle me !"

With neck carry , you can't count on the knife being in a fixed position . It can end up hanging down your back , in a rough and tumble .

I've tried a neck knife on a few different camping trips, and it never lasted long. Ultimately, I didn't like having something hanging around my neck, and since I'm tall, whenever I was stooped over to do something like fire or food prep, the knife would swing into the way of whatever I was trying to do. I'd get annoyed with that, and tuck the knife in my shirt, and then just end up reaching for the folder in my pocket, or fixed blade on my belt instead because that was easier than reaching under my shirt (or under my pullover and shirt on a cool morning). So, for me, neck knives just don't work.

I wear a serrated Spyderco ARK when we go to the beach. lightweight, rustproof, good edge for utility tasks, etc. Anything heavier than that usually bothers me. I wear a solid brass Mjolnir that weighs quite a bit, but a neck knife never really feels handy if i am wearing a shirt.

I used to think you needed a super lightweight knife to be worn comfortably as a necker. I have found that after a couple days of wearing something more substantial, I never really noticed it any more than I did a lighter knife.

That said, my usual go-to is an Izula 2 - the extra handle length justifies the slight weight increase for me.

I also wear any one of these a lot - but as I stated above, I don't really notice the weight of the bigger ones after wearing them regularly:
