A black powder shooting friend, asked me if I’d ever tried tried one.
I felt like Flava Flav for maybe 1/2 hour, then I became a believer.
The Spiderco started as a neck k., but is a tad heavy for all day.
I think the spike might be a concealed weapon😈
The CRKT was to playful to not buy. Knife friends are divided, and mutter things like, “figures”, non knife friends think…pimp.
The Kabar was a gift
The Izula, as you can see, gets thumped pretty good. My favorite.
Edit: you guys that think they swing around, I would never wear one outside my shirt, movement inside is like a little reassuring pat.

Per my budget knives passions:

1. SOG Instinct: 5Cr wonderboy
2. CRKT Minimalist Drop Point: more 5Cr fun
3. Outdoor Edge LeDuck: 8Cr upgrade

That's it. Belt carry primarily, but I carry the Minimalist as a neck knife when jogging.

Not something I really use but I personally don't think you can beat the Mora Eldris. They do a good job on the 12c27 and obviously a tough little knife which you can get for £21 in the UK. I'd personally not consider anything else.

Neck Carry for Bushcraft - in the modern era, this is mostly attributed to Mors Kochanski who also introduced Scandinavian knives for bushcraft to North America in the 80s. Mors got the neck carry idea from Inuit nurses who carried their scissors on a lanyard around their neck and he saw the convenience. When you are camping it can be very convenient and weight generally not as much as a issue as not an everyday thing. And some of the lightweight Moras it’s like nothing anyway. Acquired taste, but I prefer personally.

Neck Carry SD or Utilitarian - someone said it earlier, most carry as a backup blade, whether self defense or utilitarian, it’s nice to know you will have something ’attached’ to you if you lose your primary blade. When bad things happen you will most likely be left to fend for yourself with what is on your person at that moment. A second knife is a good idea. Weight much more of a factor here.

Believe I picked this up from Rob Simonich (RIP) over 2+ decades ago for neck carry comfort and safety. Remove all but one strand of 550-cord using that last strand to pull through a breakaway ball chain necklace. Cut to the right length and melt the 550 ends to the chain with just enough to use the clasp. The 550-cord makes it quiet, more comfortable, and prevents the knife sheath from sliding around on the chain.

Spyderco ARK is 0.9 oz. 2.1 total oz with the sheath. Like the H-1 steel as it won’t rust and the wide flat sheath keeps it from spinning too.

Some old threads are worth reviving. :)

Under Florida statutes, you can open carry almost any blade. Local laws vary. Knives other than a "common pocket knife" require a permit when concealed. The law does not define "common pocket knife," and opinions vary among police officers, prosecutors, judges, and juries. So I usually carry a knife on my belt and/or a neck knife outside my shirt.

The really great thing abut a neck knife is that, in cold weather (we have been in the low 20s lately), I can put on or take off a sweatshirt, jacket, or coat without having to remove the neck knife. And I can always reach the neck knife easily.

My favorite neck knives are:
* Spartan Blades Field Grade Enyo Fixed Neck Knife 2.6875" AUS-8A Black Drop Point Blade, Skeletonized Handle, Black Molded Plastic Sheath - SBBL2BK
* White River Knives M1 Pro Backpacker Fixed Blade Knife 3.25" S35VN Stonewashed, Textured Orange G10 Handles, Kydex Sheath - WRM1-TOR

For wet days (meaning all summer here), this is an excellent knife, but the sheath is very awkward:
* Spyderco Fred Perrin Subway Bowie Fixed Blade Knife 2.8" LC200N Satin Plain Blade, Black FRN Handles, Boltaron Sheath - FB48PBK

I have about a dozen other neck knives that I wear from time to time, always on a break-away lanyard.
