Although I`ve yet to wear one, just wondering what your favorite model might be and why? Large or small, do they get in the way? Are they comfortable?

Thanks for your opinions guys,
Dave

Here's my favorite -

It's an AG Russell "Woodswalker".

Very lightweight and compact. Hardly know it's there.

Orion K2 with cordwrapped handle. Big enough to do just about everything, but light and slim enough to be comfortable for neck carry. The down side is that you have to make your own neck sheath for it - I'm pretty sure they dont' sell one.

Lamont Coombs necker with Kydex sheath. I have a Les Voohries and mykulmorris neckers as well, both very nice. I like neckers:)

My favorite neck knife is my Gene Ingram Pocket Hippo. Gene is going to be making me a neck sheath. It is a small, but incredibly useful knife.

Ive got a CRKT Dogfish that I use when fishing. When your on a boat with a rod in your hands having a knife at the ready is handy. I use it constantly for cutting line and bait. Just have to remember to rinse well after use or rust develops. It also has a bottle opener on the other end for cracking open ice cold Buds when the bite slows.

I have a CS tanto spike neck knife. It is the only neck knife I have but it is very solid and it was inexpensive. I only wore it a couple of times and relized a neck knife was not my thing. Especially the spike.

If a neck knife happens to slip out of its sheath as you are bending over, you are in deep deep trouble. I've bought a few, and after a couple near misses, have sworn them off. And unless you have a heavy sweater or hoody on, they are rather obvious, even the flattest varieties. If I had to pick the "winner" of what Ive tried, it would be a tie between the Buck Hartsook or Kaala, depending on the size of knife you had in mind.

I read on one forum a while back where a guy almost killed himself with a Cold Steel Urban Dart in a neck sheath. Slipped out as he was going prone and stabbed him pretty deep, a couple inches more and he would've hit organs.

I have NEVER had any issues with high quality neck knives. CS is NOT what I would consider CS high quality by any means.

Gotta love that Busse Assault Shaker. That little bastard is almost indestructible and sharp as the devil's pitchfork.

Get the cheapest one you can find. Neck knives are last ditch items and you don't have to have a high grade steel to do what it was designed to do. You can get good ones for ten bucks or so. But if you like quality, just tie a Spyderco Native around your neck! Spending a lot of money for a brand name and fine quality just doesn't make sense. I have a full tang version with rubber inlays, a sharp point and serrated blade. It's very secure and comes out with a good tug. It's fine. Who'd want more?

A Smith & Wesson or cheap Chinese no-name would be fine.

What's comfortable or not is all a matter of personal preference. My current favored neckers are

Emerson LaGriffe
Todd Begg Tree Frog
Tom Mayo neck knife

I don't use them as last ditch items. I may have one of these as the only knife on my person and use it throughout the course of a day. Again, that can be down to personal preference. However, I find from using my neckers in this way that higher product quality certainly pays dividends.
