Neck Knives?

JerkeeJoe said:
Does anyone have any experience with Hide Away knives? If so, what models, and which sheathes work well for you for what purpose? Thanks.

P.S. Here's a link to the site. http://www.hideawayknife.com/main.php

I have a Strider HAK and use the kydex rig F|S sends along with it. I have used several in the past and this one is *IT*

Id say your search is over!

:)

I have lots of neck knives, and am always looking for more. I carry a neck knife just about anytime I'm not working(Govt building; not knives allowed). I just picked up a Fehrman Thru Hiker from their website. This is a cool knife; although a tad bigger than your normal necker. At 7.5" overall, I would normally put this in the small belt knife catagory, but it works either way.

I use the Spyderco SPOT. It weighs almost nothing and has a great handle shape. I like the bump on the blade, which gives it a solid click into the sheath.

Ditto on the Spyderco SPOT... it's light, thin, and nearly impossible for it to come out of the sheath accidentally. The hole for the index finger is an excellent design.

In the past, I ALMOST hurt myself quite badly when I fell over and the buttend of the neck knife speared into the ground, shoving the Kydex sheath hard into my throat.

This is my biggest concern with wearing a knife around my neck. I'll stick with folders in pockets.

My daily carry is the Smith & Wesson neck knife. Regular blade, not the Tanto. While inexpensive, I have found it to blend with the hand very well and offers a great self-defense blade (3"). I have used this in self defense when jumped by two 17-teen-yr-olds outside my home. Functioned very admirabley . My second recomendation would be the Becker-Necker. Good field knife and would work in an every dayday, self defense situation.

Welcome to Bladeforums!

I hope you got past those teens without getting damaged yourself.

also on the SD thing.. you could be choked with the cord you carry your knife in.

Consider that.

Anybody who's going to try to choke me with the cord, has got to consider the fact that I will be stabbing them with my knife while they're attempting to choke me. Also, those toilet chains have a nasty habit of breaking and then you tend to lose your knife.

When I worked night security, I wore my neck knife. I have a Fallkniven G1 Garm Fighter. This was in case of emergency knife!! It is the perfect neck knife for me!! believe me, I went through all kninds of neck knives before discovering this one!! Here is a link to it: http://www.fallkniven.com/g1/g1.htm

I have several I like. some of my favorites are:
Neil Blackwood small game clip point
Rekat drop point utility
jones Bros. JK29 D2 and ironwood
David Dempsey Executive carbon fiber handle
Scott Cook small Owyhee
I still want a Krein TK1

I love neck knives... but that's partially because I like small fixed blades. I switched over to in-pocket carry, though, because when you're wearing a parka and a sweatshirt and your knife is under all that, it's a little awkward to reach for. Plus I had an experience like Jason's and got poked in the solar plexus by my La Griffe when I fell once.

Neck carry is great to have a knife handy in the winter, when bulky coats can make belt carry uncomfortable. Lots of peoples from very cold climates carry their knives like that, the innuit for example.

Even some bushcraft authors like Kochansky carry their moras hanging from their neck.

I have two neck knives, a custom and a Fallkniven WM-1. I bought the WM-1 as a novelty, but it is a great little knife which gets lots of use.

I agree. I carry a Frosts 780, or my Eriksson 711 around my neck when backpacking. The waist strap on my pack makes it very uncomfortable to carry my belt knife.

I carry a Spydie Ronin anytime I'm not in the shower. I've never had any accidents, but it's almost always under the shirt, and it lays pretty flat. As far as being strangled with the cord, Danbo makes a good point, and a shirt can be used the same way anyhow. My Ronin's for emergencies only.

I carry a variety of neck knives from Newt Livesay. I carry the LP most, followed by the Woo

Hi,

I carry my Perrin neck knife while canoeing and hiking. I don't wear it otherwise as and EDC , but it's nice to have handy in the woods:
