Neck Knives?

I think the chances of a mugger strangling you with your neck knife cord are pretty slim. However if you work around machinery it is not a good idea to have a solid cord around your neck. A cord around your neck is a bad idea period. You can get hung up on tree branches, door knobs, or furniture. There is a reason military ID tags are worn with a break-away chain. Imagine a soldier wearing 20 pounds of gear dismounting from a vehicle and getting a 550 cord necklace caught on part of the vehicle.

I think the Becker Necker is about the best neck knife you can get for the price. There are also limitless ways to customize them. They are great little knives. They are a bit heavier that most other neck knives but it's not like it drags you down or anything. Plus, how can you beat $35?

Anybody who's going to try to choke me with the cord, has got to consider the fact that I will be stabbing them with my knife while they're attempting to choke me. Also, those toilet chains have a nasty habit of breaking and then you tend to lose your knife.

Ok the toilet chain ones are fine. The cord ones are not that great.

To rebut: I was talking about SD. Which means that you are not the agressor. If you're getting choked by surprise then I dont know how you are going to stab someone with your knife. So is your neck knife for self-defense or self-offence?

i don't understand your question? It is perfectly normal for a person to grab you by the throat or your clothes when they are fighting with you. I don't see how this translates to an offense/defense difference?
Neck knives are deep cover knives, not primary self defense blades. Nobody want's to fumble with his clothing trying to get to his hidden neck knife in an alteration. They are great to wear say in your own house in plain vieuw, but mine are considered as back-up knives outdoors.

i dont really have a use for a neck knife but i really want a MOD scorpion and a busse, dont know why i just love the looks of those 2 little knives

My favorite neck knife and has been for about the last three years. A good blade length and a flat sheath. How would you go about wrapping the handle for a better grip with paracord. The handle does not seem conducive to wrapping. Any ideas

Personally, I never much cared for having a heavy object suspended from around my neck by a chain or cord . . . just feels wrong somehow.

A lotta folks say good things about the La Griffe. Hideaway Knives are great, and have multiple carry options, most of which are better than a "pendant" rig. When I did carry a neck knife (CS Mini Culloden), I didn't hang it around my neck in the typical fashion. I got a longer cord, knotted it through the side, rather than the bottom, of the Kydex sheath, and hung it over one side of my neck so it rested slightly under my arm -- over a T-shirt and under a button-down dress shirt.

Neck knives are good for jurisdictions where concealed carry of fixed blades or daggers is prohibited . . . or when you want everyone you meet to know that you're armed (it'll also distract their attention from the derringer you're reaching for in your pocket).

I say to each his own..I personally carry a neck knife. A knife around your neck is better than none at all. The best knife in a "self-defense" situation is in your hand whatever type of knife it is.

But its not the only knife I carry. It's just one of 3 or 4. Although I feel 3-4 is adequate right now for me (because I also carry a firearm) I felt less than adequately armed recently around a few Sayoc guys.

Will62- I just looked at my girlfriend's Arclite and I may have a solution for you. Take a piece of cord wrap that you choose. Fold it in half and place the loop through the last hole, pulling the loop over the butt of the knife. This should overlap the free ends of the wrap. Then taking one end of the wrap loop it around the top ends of the holes in the handle. When the last hole has been wrapped- do a figure eight through the hole and start wrapping the bottom of the holes. When you get to the end of the knife feed the free end through the last hole, either tying it up at the pommel end or creating a lanyard for it. This method will not cover the middle of the handle but it does fill out the handle and add extra grip without much bulk.
Another option would be to figure eight through the holes with 2 ends at once- starting at the blade end and moving toward the butt of the knife.
Poor wording but I hope that you get the picture.

Or just buy some electrical shrink wrap tubing. Cut to length. Shrink to the knife handle with a heat gun. This stuff is easily found at electronics stores.
Doesn't look as good as cord wrap in my opinion, but its not a thick and can be concealed easier.

I wear one often, usually either a Krein TK-1 or a Perrin LaGriffe. They're both great little knives. These two are do light I do not even notice them. I think they're great for the summer, when I'm wearing gym shorts and t-shirts.

Work knife is a 'Snitch' by Jim Burke, very light weight and not noticable at all.
