Neckties and Traditional knives

This is something new John

I use to have a good collection of silk ties, when I wore a tie everyday. Now, I only have one, came with my Armani suit, haven't worn either for around 5 years. I'll see if I can dig it out for a pic later

About the same for me, without the suit!

Edit : Never worn this Skipton rugby club tie I was gifted in 2012 (did not wear any other btw!).

I retired at 61, seven years ago now. I still haven't taken down this motorized tie carousel that's mounted in my closet. I try to avoid ties now but end up wearing one occasionally. I didn't own the Lloyd when I was working, but if I had, it would it would have been in my pocket.

Here's one of my favorite ties. An associate of mine gifted it to me after unintentionally spilling a drink on me at a work related dinner in White Plains. He said it was his favorite tie. I can see why. I didn't wear it often but it makes a statement.

Until I got the job I have today, about 2 years ago, I had only worn a tie for occasions such as weddings even then it wasn't an every time thing. This job now I do frequently wear a tie and I had to struggle to remember how to tie it and could only remember the half-windsor I have since looked up the other knits but I still struggle with them so every day I leave out the house with just a half-windsor because it is the only one I can get right with ease.

Chief Chief that tie clip knife is very discrete I think you could sneak it through some security with relative ease.
5K Qs 5K Qs I think I grew up with a rug that matches your tie :p

Great idea for a thread. I used to have a fair few ties but don't seem to wear them much now, it is TRADITIONAL though:D Decades ago in Europe even working class men wore a tie on many jobs(painter, plumber etc) and felt underdressed without it. Now when I rarely wear a suit I usually have a collarless shirt, tee shirt or polo shirt instead. Will look out for a tie or two soon.

About age, here in Europe we've had a large influx of mainly young Arab men over the past three years or so. Now I'm some years from retirement age and many tell me I don't look my age at all (but feel it believe me:() but I had mixed feelings when going through a door to a car park recently. I held the door open-being old school ...for 2 young Arabs. But they immediately addressed me in English "Oh no, we cannot possibly do this! You are an old man and must be respected!" This accompanied by gestures and bowing to me, respect is cool but 'old man ' is like a kick in the extremities:D Vanity is absurd :D:cool:

Those are the only knots you need, I think. Use a four-in-hand most of the time. Prefer the asymmetrical knots.
I didn't even know the name of the knot I've used on ties all my life! Did some research online and found out that I always use four-in-hand. I thought my Dad once taught me a simpler knot than four-in-hand, but I sure can't remember what it was or how to tie it. :(

... But I thought you all would get a kick out of seeing the tie I wore 15 years ago to the interview for my current teaching position. I now consider it to be my "Lucky Tie". :)

I like that lucky tie, John.:thumbsup::cool: I've certainly seen the words "Sponge Bob Square Pants" in TV listings, etc., but this may actually be the first time I've ever seen what the character looks like - the name is certainly appropriate. ;)

Same.
Waiting for the bolo ties to start showing up...
Wait no more! Here's a tie my paternal grandparents brought me (my 2 brothers also each got one) from a trip to Yellowstone, along with a Colt Buckshot Bone Teardrop and a Schrade USA 34OT (thanks, Dave):

That carousel is superb, Gary!:cool::thumbsup: I have an old tie rack that used to be behind my parents' bedroom door when I was a kid, but I've never mounted it anywhere in our current house, even though we've lived here since 1985! I just throw my ties over the frame of a big mirror that's part of one of the dressers in our bedroom. Here's a photo of my Dad's old tie rack with a Camillus 21:

:D:D Must have been a happy childhood! ;)

...Have more pics, do bow ties count?
I don't make the rules in this thread, but the OP mentions bow ties, so I'm guessing they're welcome (as long as they're not clip-ons, also per the OP ;)).

Here's a Van Heusen tie that's older than me, I think. It was my Dad's, and I can't remember it NOT being on his tie rack when I was growing up. I'm pretty sure he got it sometime between graduating high school in 1948 and getting married in 1951. I "stole" it from him when I went away to college in 1969. Way too skinny to be fashionable in the late '60s, but I thought the horizontal stripes and earth tone colors were far out! The fabric is starting to disintegrate now, and the tie is quite frayed where the knot usually appears (and about a quarter inch of the narrower tail pulled off while I tugged on it once ). It's pictured here with an Imperial toothpick that is just like one my paternal Grandpa used to carry.

For the past 30+ years, I wore a tie about 50 days per year between Labor Day and Thanksgiving while I visited student teachers in local middle and high schools. So I have a fair number of ties, and I took photos of some of them on Sunday, so I'll keep posting in this thread for a while (all by myself if necessary ).

My personal favorite ties are not very fashionable (big surprise :D), but they're timeless. Here are 3 simple knit ties, a style I probably wore more than any other:

(Looks like I'm going to have to significantly shrink all of my photos before I can upload them "directly" into BF posts. :()

Had that same green tie. Think I bought it in 1982. Do they still make those?
Wearing my New York Yankees tie today and remembering 17 years ago.

I just found reasonable facsimiles on Amazon, so I think they still make them.:cool:;)

Won this tie in a charity raffle. Think it's from the Safari Collection ;)

Cool cats on your tie, redsparrow redsparrow !:thumbsup::cool: Speaking of cats, here's a tie with a fairly well-known cat on it:

The back of the tie has good advice for a classroom community:
