Hello all. I've really been thinking of saving up for a pistol or some other firearm. I am no expert. So do you know of a gun forum comparable to BF? Any help would be appreciated.

Check out ar15.com. All kinds of firearm discussions are there. Under the outdoors section, there is a survival forum. It seems that opinions are honest and not so slanted toword a certain brand or design. They can help you with your questions.

Blood_Grooves thanks! I will look into that. Do they sell at Academy. I know they sell Rugers but didn't find it online.

Edit: found it thanks

frontiersman thanks man for the forum recommendation. Will check it out for sure.

I'm sure you could ask in here too and get a great response. There is a ton of knowledge floating around. We are nerds who build fires and whack sticks with knives, and sometimes we make things go boom!

Why Academy? Dude support your small local shops. They will take care of you better in the long run.

I'm not really totally familiar with all the gun forums. I know that ramanon has some knowledgeable people, and we have a lot of knowledgable people here, as well.

I'd recommend a cheap used 22, even a single shot. And then a mid caliber lever gun- .357 or .44

One will be cheap to shoot and give you plenty of practice checking your safety and going slowly through the motions. The other will give you that feeling of reaching out to touch something without making you sore.

OTOH, any military surplus bolt will be a blast.

oh- and find the local range club. Take the NRA course and borrow some weapons. People will LOVE to have you shoot the one they think You Must Own to try and cnvert you to their Holy Caliber. Make use of it :D

I just wanted to check on the specs, forgive me for I have sinned.;):D My local gun shop is over priced. When I bought a knife there I felt violated when I saw the online price at 30% off what I paid. Thanks.

I agree. Military surplus rifles are a blast.

For a first firearm, and a sole firearm, I will always reccomend a shotgun. Most versitle weapon on the planet.

For Canadians or even you yanks wanting to take advantage of the 20% discount you get with the exchange rate CGN (Canadian Gun Nutz) is awesome. It has a great exchange and forums like a wilderness survival ,red rifles(mosins SKS etc)edged weapons and antiques.
Lots of hunting and rimfire stuff as well.
