Not knowing what you would like to use the gun for I have no idea what to reccomend. I usually reccomend a shotgun or a 22 to a new shooter. The first because it is very versatile and can be used for a wide variety of purposes and the latter because they are great plinkers, hunters and affordable to shoot.
Edit: I just read that you were looking at a pistol. you would really need to be a little moe specific in what you want out of the gun. Be sure to get a lot of opinions and shop around as they both vary quite a bit.
