Need a flatter blade. What fixed blades have thin handles?

I just got two Orion knives and they are nice !! CPM154 blades for $49.00, what more can you ask??

try out a simonich crowfoot if you can find one. I carry one all the time and it is easily concealable and a great blade

Boker-Nealy specialist II- $115.
CRKT ABC Hammond- $46
CRKT Crawford neck knives $20 or so

All are awesome!

Keep those suggestions coming.

I've already bought a Benchmade Activator today thanks to this thread, but I'm still interested in acquiring some more EDCs along these lines (I can't be expected to wear the same knife every dang day ;) ).

Bark Rivers are nice and small- maybe TOO small (first I complain about too much, now I'm complaining about too little). I have a Mini-Canadian that I'll probably sell soon- it just isn't enough grip surface for my hand- it's thin in two dimensions (top/bottom, side-to-side).

I don't know what sheath you got with the Activator, I believe BM makes a kydex one for it now, but I know the leather one sucks big time.

Forum member Normark makes outstanding kydex sheaths, thats where I got mine from.

Have you considered sanding down the scales on the TAK-1?

Good point. With the right tools (ie, belt sander) this would be a job of about 5 or 10 minutes.

If all you've got is sandpaper and elbow grease... still do-able, just slower.

If you were local, I'd do it for you for a beer! :p (Heck, if you can get a beer to me in the mail in a box with the knife, we might have ourselves a deal yet :D)

Thanks Mike (and Rat), that's a good idea. Any special things I need to know about sanding micarta, or handles in general? What grit would you recommend? Would I need to use sucessively finer grits, or could I do it all with, say, 400? Finally, what about the handle pins- wouldn't they protrude above the sanded handle surface?

Bite the bullet and have a look at Dozier knives.
Greg

Actually, I won an epray auction on one of those this week. Nice little Dozier kit knife, already assembled for a bargain price.

Between that and the Activator and a sanded-handle TAK (once I figure out exactly how to do that), it's looking good. I'll just need two more to round out the workweek...

Number one tip, don't breathe the dust.

you will want a low grit paper to take the scales down with any kind of efficiency. 400 is too fine. I am not sure what grit is best.

you might have to mess with the bolts and make the countersink deeper if it has bolted on scales. if it is solid pins, they will probably be sanded down even with the scales.

Hey Guys...

I'll also agree on the Benchmade Resistor, Activator, and Moras..

How about the Benchmade Ritter Grip ??

Awesome knife...

One thing to keep in mind..

If you do any sanding on the scales,, it will no longer fit the supplied sheath properly...

Check out the Bark River PSK - about a 2" blade, and very thin handles.

If you prefer Bark River with a bit longer blade, Mike would be glad to modify the handles for you.

thin handled fixed blades: Spyderco SPOT/Swick/Kumo; Fallkniven WM1, Garmin...
Thinnest I have is a Buck Hartsook neck knife .... :p

I didnt think it would be that hard to find a knife with a thin handle...
There are a billion knives which have no added material on their handles or are cord wrapped for soem grip but still not much thickness.

What i just ordered but havent gotten in the mail is a seki-cut hiro fixed blade. I felt one t a shop and it was nice, and looks nice too.

They have it in the non seconds version too.
I also have a CRKT stiff KISS knife, its thin. Heck if you liked it id even send it to you for real cheap.

What do you want to use this knife for?
Ive always liked the benchmade fixed griptillian. Not to thin, great utility shape, great price. Maybe a little bigger than you want though.
