ive come up with quite a list of the knives i am looking at, most notably the bravo-1.
here in california its illegal to carry a "dagger" as the laws call fixed blades, of any length or kind.

switchblades are illegal too, however folding knives are not.
the folding knife can be big, but i will not accept an extrema ratio rao.
im looking for a folder that can cut well and hold an edge well, and please, NO SERRATED EDGES. i hate them, they are pointless, simple as that.
im also looking for one that i could trust my life to.
right now im looking at the CRKT m21-02, however ive heard CRKTS are made in taiwan and i dont want a knife made in taiwan or china, but some CRKTs supposedly are made in the us.

when i say trust my life to, i mean if need be, in a disaster, could survive on.
i leave my fixed blades at home in fear of getting arrested, not to mention confiscated knives.

Fallkniven PXL looks quite sheeple. Almost a folding F1 but even better steel.
Emerson CQC7 looks a bit more combat. Strider SMF looks even more combat.

I would go for the PXL though, just because it doesnt look combat.
It has a clip that can be removed and a thumb stud that might be removable.

I guess that if the big pile of poo hits the big fan I doubt that police will walk around and confiscate knives. Just look what happened in New Orleans. Chaos, mayhem, disaster etc. They will have their hands full with gun toting crazy people, who need big guns because their neighbour has a big gun.

So you can never carry a fixed blade, ever?

Here's a tip for future posts. Refrain for showing your ignorance about subjects you know nothing about and maybe you won't make yourself, and us foreigners look like asses :jerkit:

Living in Spain I am a foreigner myself and sometimes I feel like playing in a whole different league than 99% of the guys here. Weapon related laws anywhere else but in US are much more restrictive. I sometimes feel like giving my opinion about some stuff but as soon as I start typing I realise that my comment just doesn't do much good here...
Nodh I won't jump on you as hard as tabeeb762, I will just say that you might need to chose your words more carefully and keep in mind this is a 99% US forum.

Back to the topic. I am not familiar with California knife laws but I bet you can get a 4" folder for a fair price. If you need a thick workhorse Striders come to my mind as well, but they are expensive. Same goes with Kershaw ZT line. For a little bit less you can get a Spyderco Manix, a Hossom Retribution Folder (pretty big and thick, no clip though). If you want to go even cheaper... have a look at the bigger Voyager and Gunsite folders from Cold Steel.

I hope this helps,
Mikel

How about the Benchmade Griptilian 551. The Axis lock is very tough, the handle is comfortable and it practically disappears in your pocket

Cabela's also sells a grip in D2, and Doug Ritter has his own interpretation with a nice wider drop point blade in S30V

The Benchmade 710 is excellent. The Military and the Manix from Spyderco are also very popular, though I have never used either.

Well, personally I don't have any "high end" folders, but for the last few years I have been carrying a Kershaw MiniCyclone and I love it. Or a Gerber Freeman Folder. Both have served me well. But I tend more towards the SAK then "tactical" folders anyways, and I am more of a drop point user then clip point.

A lot of people don't like the steel of either knife, or the design for one reason or another, and they are a lot more knowledgeable then I am. But from a user point of view, both have proved to be rock solid.

Well I asked my brother in law who's is a police officer if I can carry a fixed blade legally. According to him it's legal as long as it's not a dagger or any knife with the similarities of a dirk, dagger, or an ice pick. Hunting knives are fine as long its not carried concealed. Perfectly makes sense, there are alot of camping and hiking areas in Southern California, and banning the carry of a fixed blade knife in those areas seems to be just absurd.

I have been using a Spyderco Manix for my EDC for about a Year now and Love It. for most of my camping trips this is my primary blade for camp chores. I usually pair it with a light hatchet which is definiteley legal in CA

My brother has an older BenchMade CQC7 that he has been Carrying for over 15 years and wont trade for anything. I dont like chisel grind or tanto points but its a nice knife

I think that a knife by either brand will serve you well.

Spyderco Manix is a great folder

But I like my Ritter Griptilian

All the great action, feel, lockup of a griptilian. But with a great S30V blade

Trust my life to a folder?

Mkay I'll go with any of these:
Spyderco Manix
Benchmade Rukus
Emerson Commander
Zero Tolerance ZT0200
Bradley Alias 1
Strider SMF

Knives of Alaska Master Guide is a good folder. Blade Tech Magnum PH is about to hit the market. I'm looking to get one of those.

A fixed blade is automatically a "dagger" in Cali?
As far as I know, I have'nt read the law in a while, but last I checked a 4", unconcealed single edge knife with less than 1 1/2" of serrations (if I recall) is legal.

If you can't get away with a fixedblade, you can't go wrong with a Manix. I've been lugging mine around for over 2 years and its great.

Really, anything from Spyderco, Benchmade or Kershaw would most likely serve you well. I've never gotten a turd from any of those companies.
