need a good folder, needs specified

I absolutely agree about having a SAK (my preference is the Outrider model); they are inexpensive, handy and a great backup if not your primary.

Here are the folders I would recommend on being stout enough with decent locks if you couldn't carry a fixed blade:

The zt-500 looks perfect! now just where can i find one of those, hmm.
i always carry fixed blades in the wilderness, they are a neccessity.
i would appreciate any more feedback on the zt-500

I have found mine most comfortable with gloves on. They can be found at http://newgraham.com/

They lock is essentialy impossible to penetrate with sand or other material. My only suggestion is that carrying it in a sheath might be easier in the end.

Check the kershaw forum here for more info on the 0500.....in fact here some links....

Extrema Ratio Rao...it's the nearest thing to a fixed blade that you can fold, if that makes sense !!!

Instead of looking for a folder, why don't you go research the knife laws more before you post? Most of it can be done online....

Benchmade 710
Benchmade Griptilian in any of its various forms
Benchmade Rukus
Spyderco Chinook III
Spyderco Manix

All are really solidly made, dependable, ambidextrous opening, and a good size.

Only thing would be if you had to sharpen any of them because they're all made of very hard steels. D2, 154CM, and S30V.
So I'd have with me a small diamond hone too.

Spyderco US made (only): Manix or Mini Manix, Chinook (3) if you want some size, Caly3 or several others if smaller. Benchmade (many fine models take your pick), Emerson (ditto), Kershaw, all US made. Don't forget Buck (US made of course)

I just picked up a Spydero Para-Military, and I think it's pretty nice. Good size for carrying, tough, and top notch materials/construction.

switchblades are illegal too, however folding knives are not.

What is considered a 'switchblade'? I carry a CRKT M16 which is considered in some states to be illegal as a 'switchblade.'

NO SERRATED EDGES. i hate them, they are pointless, simple as that.
im also looking for one that i could trust my life to.

I understand that is a matter of preference, but my CRKT has serrations and they can save your life. Especially if you happen to need to cut a seatbelt in an accident. Just my .02.

right now im looking at the CRKT m21-02, however ive heard CRKTS are made in taiwan and i dont want a knife made in taiwan or china, but some CRKTs supposedly are made in the us.

My brother carried one the whole time he was deployed to Iraq and I have brutalized it since he gave it to me about a year ago. I will be posting a review one of these days.

Just look what happened in New Orleans. Chaos, mayhem, disaster etc. They will have their hands full with gun toting crazy people, who need big guns because their neighbour has a big gun.

Thanks for the ignorance... Come back when you have been there and know what you are talking about...

The dirk and dagger law in CA states that any knife which does not require a seprate action to ready may not be carried concealed. You CAN carry a dirk, dagger or whatever if it isn't concealed. no specific mention of bladelengths for any type of blade is mentioned.

As a side note- I've never found a police oficer who knew the regulation AT ALL. In Davis, when discussing with officers I have received the standard array of mall ninja answers regarding palm length, clips in pocket being not concealed but in the pocket is, fixed blade knvies can only be carried for work, etc.

As a Canadian I don't really care where a knife is made since I will have to import it anyway (except maybe grohman... anyway).

I had a M21-04 and did not like it. It looks like a strong knife, but it's bulky, especially if you want to EDC it.

I would get a Spyderco (Delica or Endura) or a BM (grip or mini-grip).

i only read the intial post, so if you have changed the question any, this might not apply. i have never owned or handled a griptillian but have only heard good things. would you be open to a slip-joint folder, or are those out?
