Need a good knife that's $60 or less!

Buck 110 or Kershaw Skyline

The Buck 110 is a great knife. I still have the one my dad gave me when I was 12. Unfortunately, I don't think he'll go for that. He loves the wave and the assisted openers. I even suggested a Charlie Mike'd Spyderco but it looks like the Skyline is at the top of the list right now. I showed him my waved Delica and it's too small and the waved Endura is over his price limit... BTW, this is one of those guys you NEVER loan your knife to because he uses them for scraping and light prying.... Might as well get an inexspensive good knife.

There's usually a Spyderco Manix 2 available at that price range in the For Sale area. That's a lot of knife for the money, IMO.

go with Spyderco. The native, endura, centofante, delica, or any of the even cheaper knives from the economy line (tenacious, resilience, ect)

as quite a few have mentioned, the Kershaw Speed Bump. You can also take it apart to clean it if it ever gets to that kind of condition.

I agree with the Skyline. Kershaw also has some new inexpensive knives that are assisted opening. The Drone, Compound and Asset. They don't have the same steel as the Skyline (the others have 8Cr13MOV) but they look interesting. I don't have any of those but maybe someone else has some input on them.

He went with the Kershaw Tactical Speed Bump. I'm sure it'll hold up a lot better than the crummy knives he's been using. He usually burns out those swap meet specials in a couple of months. I almost can't believe I persuaded him to buy a real knife!! Thanks for all of your input!

I've been hearing all "this n that" about the Skyline and picked one up at Wal-Mart for about 30 bucks Friday evening. I opened it outside and immediately took it back inside and got my money back. It felt lit like a cheap toy to me (I mean no insult to any of you guys or to Kershaw). I'd never carry it, my Sanrenmu 710 is 10x's the knife - it's shorter though.

I'd put him on to a Spyderco Endura 4 FFG with a black handle (doesn't show dirt). FFG, VG-10 steel on lower end models but still excellent, mid-lock, 3 3/4 inch blade - what's not to love? They're one of the best value folding knives available IMHO.

A Spyderco Endura or Benchmade Pika (think thats what theyre called) Benchmades lower end knife with decent steel and reliable!

If he likes your Emerson's wave feature, show him the Endura Wave from spyderco. If he doesn't want a wave, there's the Endura FFG series and the Native as other outstanding options in the range. Right out of the box, a Spyderco blade is mind-blowingly sharp. He should be pretty happy with that.

Hey everyone, thanks for your input. He actually ordered the kershaw speed bump on Friday, which I mentioned in a post on Friday! :-D

Well I think you have gotten a lot of very good suggestions, but I thought I would throw this at you. For under $60 you can get 2 Byrd Cara-Caras one for you one for him. Very similar to the Endura, I have the G10 version and its a nice work knife. (Unfortunately it is made in China). Another brute I recommend for about $60 is the Boker Kalashnikov. I have attached a photo of it next to a M.W. Perock and a Spyderco Para 2.

Well, if there's any newbies reading, now they'll have a good idea of a great first knife!

Endura
delica
Izula/izzy 2
skyline
leek
tenacious family
Buck vantage series.
Full size/mini grip.

Cant go wrong with any of these.

I've had them all (except for the tenacious, which i've handled) My favorite is the endura but there all great.
I would suggest showing him all these knives online, having him read some reviews, and if you have a local knife shop, or if you have any of these knives letting them handle them and deciding based on that.

What does he need it for? Edc, food prep, batoning cinder blocks?

Whoops, just reads the entire thread and realized he had made his decision. I hope he enjoys the kershaw.
