Need a good recommendation for a solid EDC knife.

I recommend a Spyderco CF Mili, It's the size you want and it's also light yet tough and easy to carry.

Personally I'd get a Ritter Griptilian or a Benchmade 710.
You really can't go wrong with ANY Spyderco or Benchmade.

Any Benchmade with AXIS lock will suit your cutting needs well, and the AXIS lock itself is fun to play with. It's not assisted, but with a bit of practice, it's even faster. Fast to open, and just as fast to close. Plus you can do it slowly if you don't want to frighten the sheeple. I like the 940 over the 710 myself, but I really want to get a 930 Kulgera. You said "big", so look at the 710 or 610 (biggest AXIS lock knife there is).

My favorite edc is the Military, great knife. Every blade mentioned so far would make an excellent edc it really depends on your specific needs as to which you choose.

Blade-Tech (Tim Wegner) makes some great knives in the size range you're looking for. The pro hunter models come with a 3 5/8” S30V blade and either G-10 or Carbon Fiber scales. (On the G-10 models the handles also come in orange and OD green.)

You may also want to try our new FOX/BLADE-TECH "Profili". It features the Ron Lake safety lock which virtually fixes the liner-locking blade in the open position when engaged. Of course, you can check out all of our new products at www.blade-tech.com

Man, there's so many choices......I'm spending hours going through different knives.

Thank you guys for all the great suggestions! Keep em coming if anyone else has any more great recommendations.

To further clarify, it doesn't have to be AO, but it does need to be able to open just as fast as one. So don't let that limit you :)

Thanks again!

Edit: Just watched some youtube video's explaining axis lock. Holy crap, forget AO and liner locks, I must have a knife with an axis lock. I'm looking at the Benchmades, but it also looks like SOG has a axis-type lock. I'm looking at the Vulcan, specifically. Only thing that turns me off are the el cheapo handles.

So right now I'm narrowing it down to a Griptilian or similar benchmade with an axis lock, or a JYDII composite / titanium , and maybe a SOG....but SOg doesn't seem to be as good quality. I like Spyderco as a company, and the Military looks nice, as does a waved Endura, but the cheap looking handle and liner lock turn me off. It's looking like something from Benchmade at this point.

So, to narrow it down:

Hard edge, with good retention
Axis Lock
Blade at least 3.75in
No cheap plastic / zytel handle!
Interesting blade shape / grind would be a plus.

Thanks again for the help!

End Edit

It looks like you are describing a Benchmade 710, as the Griptillians use Zytel for their handles.

I think I've settled on a Benchmade 710, with plain edge and uncoated blade. Thanks a ton for the great recommendation, everyone.

On a side note, how can I gain access to the "Wanted to Buy" forums? I'm looking for a CUDA MAXX (just because I always wanted one) and a new pocket clip for my Camillus Heat, so I can at least have it in working order just in case. And maybe a Camillus Rescue Heat.

Thanks!

(New BM42 and 710, I knew I was putting that bonus aside for some reason :) )

Well, I revised my first post and I have an idea of what I'm looking for. I tried out a Kulgera today and it felt small and thin, tiny in my hand. I loved the G10 scales on it thought, that had me convinced of what I wanted my handle material to be. And the Axis lock was great. I also tried out a Spyderco, and like the large blade size and thumb hole. The liner felt pretty solid too, so I guess I could deal with a liner lock.

Oh lord, I'm feeling so indecisive.

I don't know how you feel about small fixed blades but I've been EDCing a CRKT Ringed Razel for 4 months now and I really love it.
It grips great, strong and stays sharp.both edges.
