need a good solid edc but still light

The good answer is: BM710

The 710 is a great knife and carries very well due to how slim it is. It's not exactly a light weight though. If I carry a big knife it is a 710 generally though.

Benchamde 705 which is a little harder to find.

Benchmade 707 still in production and easy to find.

I just prefer the blade of the 705 a little better. I think the 707 is slightly slimmer.

Never had a 705 but the 707 is a great light EDC choice with a hefty blade for it's size.

Dang near perfectly described the Benchmade 940

Yep. The tip is the only thing holding me back from recommending it so I recommended the 943 which has a more traditional clip point. The 94X series is about the best EDC knives I've come accross.

Yep, sounds like the OP should look to Benchmade. Maybe these pics will help a little for size comparison...

Good luck, OP! Let us know what you decide on!:)

It sounds like the Benchmade 940 series would meet the biggest part of your wants. Good Luck! Kevin :D

Here is a size comparison of the 950 Rift (top knife) and the 940 (940-1 in this case) in the middle.

I think im gonna get a 943 or 710. Maybe the spear point stryker. Zt is a lil chunky. I might get a rift or the carbon fiber 940 thx for suggestions

The 710 is lighter and carries slimmer than the 950 Rift. BM says the 710 weighs around 4.5 oz but mine have always been a little more. The Rift was def. bulkier. 940 series is the easiest/lightest to carry.

The 710 is my favorite large folder. The 940 is my favorite all around EDC. :)

Post pics of what you get.

Don't be cheap, add another 500 bucks and order a custom made to your specs.

i want to cut people like you in half...
oh just send another five grand and get the very best you can possibly get... no. nobody who isnt a super fanatic wants to spend their life savings on a knife. i spent 200 dollars on a contego, and the only thing i was dissappointed in was the fact that i spent 200 dollars, lol.

edit: im sorry that was harsh, but honest.

Pretty sure he was kidding...I hope.

Street price on the Al Mar Eagle HDs is, IIRC, about $160 - $225 and the brown & orange scales seem to be available. I think there used to be a bright blue scaled version around. I have the AUS-8 version, which I like, but if you want the better steel, get one of the ZDP-189 versions.

The BM 940 series also seems to fit your requirements. Or perhaps the BM large Emissary (477?) if you don't mind assisted opening (can't recall if you specified no assist in your original post).

I just prefer the blade of the 705 a little better. I think the 707 is slightly slimmer.

The 707 is a good bit thinner, and uses aluminum handles with a G10 inlay versus the entire G10 handle slabs for the 705. They use the same stainless liners but a different width AXIS lock to make the 707 thinner than the 705. Other than the blade and handle, the 707 doesn't have a lanyard hole like the 705 (some of the spacers used on the 707 have the hole in them, others not). I'm a big fan of the 707 blade myself, but like the LE handles on a few 705 models much more than any of the 707s, so I EDC a hybrid with a M390 707 blade, a 707 SS liners and AXIS mechanism, custom standoffs, and 705 outer handle scales with a wood inlay.
