Need a HeadLamp...

both my wife and i, have used the petzal tikka plus headlamps for years.. great lights and a great price...

+1 on the Tikka XP. For caving you need a very bright light at times and the power boost on the XP will serve that purpose well. It also has a built in light diffuser which is handy for close work.

Definitely have more than one light source (I always carried 4 when caving, and they all used the same type of battery and I only carried lithiums) and definitely tell others where you're going, how to get there and when to expect you back. It's just basic safety and common sense. Just because you're a safe and responsible adult doesn't mean Murphy still not out to get you.

I've got the Black Diamond Spot. It is bright enough to mountain bike by on Fire roads, much brighter than a standard petzl Tikka (I had one of these as well) and has variable brightness settings. the Tikka XP looks comparable as well.

I have the Princeton Tec Aurora and it's been working great for two years. Am looking at getting a Princeton Tec Quad also. When going into a cave I like to have my head lamp and at least one hand head flashlight with me. Sometimes two. Then again, I do that when ever I know I'm going to be out in the dark away from the city.

Get a princeton tec quad, and back that up with a Streamlight 1L or Surefire G2, and get an ever ready or garrity plastic 2 dollar job for your pack.

.............+1 but I would save $10 and get the p4
I doubt I could tell the difference between the P4 & Q5, but I wanted the latest and greatest and had the $10.

Then get a ARC AAA for a reliable back up

ARC lights are among the best, but I use a Peak LED Kino Bay, that way only AA batteries are needed. Two Zebralights, one backing up the other, would also be a good idea. http://peakledsolutions.net/

 for Petzl Tikka for the simple reason that I own one right now and it's a LOT lighter than my older Petzl bulb burner. Shop around on line, you can find them cheaper than $35.

I may have gave you guys the wrong idea, about the cave... its samll. i just always need a headlamp, and i thought this was a good time to buy one... :D Thanks for information, and i always tell someone where i am when hiking :)

I will probably get the Petzl Tikka XP seems like everyone likes them :) and when i have the chance to get a fenix flash light.

Thanks guy for your help. i am going to go to REI and looking at the Petzl Tikka XP in person.

Always tell someone where you are going, just as you would before climbing a mountain or something. Spelunking is dangerous. Carry multiple lights. You might want to get a helmet too. . . for the inevitable bashing of your head on low ceilings. If it is a mineshaft and not a natural cave, better not to risk it.

crap i frogot to tell you... its not exactly a cave (just what i call a cave) its a old train tunnle that the end got covered up and the entrance is almost but not quit covered up...

EDIT: ill try to get pictures when i go :)

I have and love the Princeton Tec Eos. It has low, medium, bright, and flash settings. I find it is comfortable to wear. It is waterproof and easy to manipulate when your hands are wet, cold, or gloved. It is right around 40 dollars as well depending on the vendor.
