I need to mill and cut out a ringed guard for a Vest Pocket Dagger. I cant find a large enough piece, probally around 3/4" x 2" x 2" would do it.
Anybody know where they sell Nickel Silver that big?

Bruce, I've got some 1/4" that I'll never use. Can it be stacked?

Bruce

I also have some 1/4" thats yours if you want it. Let me know and I'll send it out ASAP.

If you hit a dead end you can cast it pretty easy. I needed a 3/4" nickle silver round bar and could not find it anywhere so I made a mold and cast my own bar. Graphite makes great molds and machines real easy.

I have NS powder and may have to forge weld it in a cannister but if its available I would rather buy it.

Thanks guys for the offer but I cant stack it up and make it look right. I wonder if I can fuse it like mokume? Any experience doing that?

Not be a smart ass, but he asked for 3/4".

That is true but wishing and getting are two different things. 1/4" is the thickest I have seen available. I have 1/4" that Bruce can have. It may cost him a couple beers in April if he wants it.

I tried doing a can weld mokume with NS powder and it had alot of bubbles. It was frustrating because half the bar was solid and the other half was swiss cheese. For what it's worth the melt point for NS (18%) is 1715 (F). Refractory cement makes a decent mold for it also.

Ray, arent you supposed to be busy making sheaths?
Yes I want it but just bring it to Eugene so save postage. A couple beers is a great trade! I need my red meat fix too.

Bruce, I are making sheaths but need to take a break every now and then. I guess now all I need to do is find the nickel silver.

If you have the means to make a simple crucible, you could sand cast an oversize bar, then machine it down.

Sheffield Supply sells it in 1/2" thick. Maybe you could "upset" it to make it thicker?

Bruce there is a post in the Don Fogg forum about odd pices of NS. Maybe what you are looking for in the forsale section. Mike

Bruce,I needed a 3/4 inch piece for the buttcap of the Rose Bowie and all I did was silver braze 3 pieces of 1/4 inch together...Alex showed me how to do it and it looks fine.
