I recently started a thread where I was selling some knives and gear for quick sales to fund some car service after I just had my shoulder surgery(since I won't be driving figured it was a good time to get it in the shop) and pay for my addiction; a new winkler to be put on my war belt for my job in the Navy. I have had nothing but pleasant bartering experiences on Bladeforums and have 17 positive feedbacks to match my experience, but for the first time I have an issue.

An individual emailed me then pm'd me saying he would take two of the most expensive Striders I had for sale in my thread. He did not want to use paypal because he said he did not have an account set up and would rather send a cashier's check. I do not have much experience with those but I figured it must be safe because I would receive payment prior to shipping the knives. I told him to post "i'll take it" in the thread and gave him my address.

Once I received the check and deposited it into my bank account I shipped the two knives, extra sheath, and tek lock that came with one of the knives to the address given. I supplied a tracking number and an eta, as I always do. I then received a pm stating the tracking number given was being delivered to my house. I am not sure how that could happen but maybe I mixed up tracking numbers or something. I told the buyer that If it was shipped by accident to my house I would resend with expedited. Turns out the package showed up on time to the buyers given address.

However, the buyer says that it only had one sheath in it, no knives no tech lock. I asked if the package look like it had been opened or tampered with he said no and that it was my original packaging with my written address. I requested a picture and he sent it. the buyer said it had the proper weight of one sheath paid for on the package, suggesting that all I sent, however it was flat rate and did not need to be weighed so I asked how he would even know what the weight was I paid for(I never weighed it).

So, I went to the post office to make sure and check on the tracking number problem and why it said it was shipped to my address even though it got to its end destination. They printed off two sheets with every checkpoint the package went through and the tracking info to match. Now the buyer is saying I only sent him one sheath and that I must have had the other items sent to my house or did not send the knives at all, he asked for me to send back his payment in full via paid money order.

I don't have a perfect trader rating here because I rip people off, and it sounds to me as if he wants the knives and a refund. I have pics of all the documents and the entire conversation to support my story. What should I do? Because I don't want to send him back the money and lose my two knives but I don't want him to be screwed out of a deal and sold a sheath for the price of two striders. I was told at the post office that recipient can file a claim so I sent him all the info and the insurance info that I paid for with the knives so if it was lost somehow or stolen he could be refunded. What should my course of action be? The buyer is a registered user with zero feedback and no history on BFs.

I can post thread link and the buyers name if needed as well as pics of the conversation and info from usps if need be?

The cashier's cheque is probably fake too. Be ready for it to bounce any day.

Post the buyer's name now. It's important.

His only posts are in your thread. I would be suspicious of the guy, and if it's a flat rate box, it's not weighed, so I don't know how he could know the "correct weight for only a sheath"

Maybe someone should notify cmac12 about this thread? He could chime in and share his side, like how he knew the weight?

Idk just seems fishy as in his solid 5 posts to your almost 400 and perfect 17 feed back score. Not saying you can't buy with 5 posts but 5 posts first buy can't use PayPal I'll send cashiers checks just seems fishy. And then the weight comment if you send it flat rate shipping they didn't weight it so how could he know. I would watch those cashiers checks I would guess they are fake just with the stuff you explained. But there is always another side maybe he will chime in and says his side.

He's online now. (I'm starting to wonder why anyone would buy or sell anything from anyone here).

To be fair, I've had nothing but good experience buying on this forum, and hundreds of transactions go on daily, so I wouldn't worry about a few bad apples. You'll generally be alright dealing with members here.

Wow that is a close mined statement. I've done deals here with no problems. The good deals far out weight the bad ones in the gbu.

Cashier check fraud is rampant now. Best to accept checks only from long term members, with a lot of positive feedback. Otherwise, best to stick with paypal, or US postal money orders, which can be verified as being good at the post office, before you ship.

Like any dispute, give it some time. Don't be too quick to send a refund. Even PayPal disputes take a couple of weeks to settle.
When, I ship, I always get a receipt from the post office of them scanning it in and weighing it to ensure I'm not over the weight limit. Did you get a receipt ?????
Are you sure you didn't get packages mixed up???? After all, you had multiple packages going out.
Give yourself time to figure out where the mishap occurred.

I used the machine at the post office to circumvent the line and it doesnt need you to weigh it if it fits in the priority flat rate envelope.
