That address 2 Journal Square Plaza in Jersey City is just a big office building complex; it does not look like a buyers legitimate address. I like to google the address of buyers, to verify and see where I'm sending the package. If it doesn't look good, I don't send it. Almost all addresses have google photos these days.

Perhaps hire a private detective to track down the person. I've done that too, and it's not very cost effective.

I'm sorry but I just don't get it. Why did you not wait for the check to clear? Selling to a completely new member with zero feedback and no history. I understand the need to sell, but without credentials (and therefore no trust) and without money in your account, how do you decide to ship two valuable knives off into a black hole?
I really hope this works out for you, but the odds are not in your favor.

If the only thing he's interested in is the law....I'd show him some. Not only a crook, but he's a smartass about it as well. With his attitude, and to my mind clearly trying to rip you off .... personally I'd tell him to go piss up a rope...but that's just me. ;')

Yea, his silence speaks more than his words clearly could. Anyone paying with that method should understand that the check needs to clear first. The fact that he has put a clock on you demanding a refund really sounds like he wants some nice knives for free. As mentioned, get in-touch with your post office for their help and be prepared to go after any check-fraud or mail fraud that he has committed. He clearly cares enough about forums (unlike his text states) to come here purchase knives, so I really feel his text is truly not genuine and that he is trying to pull one over here.

I feel like such a fool i thought when i deposited the check in my account that it was good to go. I had no idea a cashiers check could bounce or be fake. I just sent the knives as soon as the check was deposited successfully.

Well what will happen is he will get the knives for free and the money he paid you if you send that money back to him cause those fake checks cost him little to nothing so. So he would have cash +knives win win for him lose lose for you.

For those that don't use PP USPS money orders are the norm, unless you know the person and then you can take whatever you feel confident in. I would not let him set deadlines for a refund. If you decide to give one do it in a timely manner, but only after all the issues are dealt with-such as the check fully clearing. You don't want to be out the knives the money and a refund on top of that. Not saying you are scammed or not at this point, but things need to be cleared up.
The one thing I have heard that is a little different then my understanding-I always thought it was the seller who filed the insurance claim, since it is the seller who bought the insurance. I doubt they will pay anyway since it shows it delivered.
Good luck

It's not foolish to trust people, because the majority of them are honest. You just have to learn to be discerning enough to spot the scammers, before they take some advantage.

Wow, what a mess. I can't stress enough,, no matter how many times it has been said.
PAYPAL GOODS ONLY!!!!!! Or at least a money order..
And Sorry to anyone with a low post count,, but you have to earn your feedback score,, one honest purchase at a time.
Hope that check clears man.

Quoted for posterity.

You can find USPS information here:
https://www.usps.com/

Contact the USPS Postal Inspectors here:
https://postalinspectors.uspis.gov/

Contact the Postal Inspectors before you say anything else, to us or the buyer. You are dealing with a scammer. Your only aim now is to get your knives back.

We have a lot of good people here who will give you good advice, and a few who are blowing smoke. The less said, the better, until you hear from professional law enforcement. We don't know your buyer but the Inspectors might.

The Friday deadline makes it seem to me like he wants you to send out the money before your banks fraud department contacts you that way he gets the knives and the money. He hasn't used his real address and probably hasn't used his real name so there would be no recourse even if you did involve the authorities. If I knew I was 100% in the right I would not be refunding him and forget about the "law" scare tactic. For the most part there isn't a whole heck of a lot the law can do in these situations.

There is no way, on this planet that that money actually ends up in your account!!!!!

As Esav said, you need to contact a postal inspector.

Paypal, or USPS money order only. I don't send the knife until I literally have the cash from that postal money order in my wallet, and am walking out.

Ive had a local postal guy tell me a big money order was fraudulent. He would not cash until he had another worker check it. It was real, and I had my cash, but if it had been fake? No big deal, I had not sent anything yet.

If a buyer has no feed back? I have asked for USPS money order or nothing! (No pay pal from some one with absolutely no feed back).

He tried to get me to ship without me receiving the money order. I did not. I eventually got that money order (two weeks after he insisted I must have received it, then that his girl friend had sent it, then, oops, she told me she sent it but did not).

I simply don't need to sell a knife bad enough to risk it, and if it costs me a sale, fine, some one else will come along. I am the seller, and my rules are what control my sales.

I don't have a lot of feed back on here. Ive done my share of deals, and I have never been scammed, but I'm careful.

I would suggest the money is not going to clear. If you refund him, you will be out your knives, and out your money if you try to refund.

Even if the cashiers check turns out to be real, you are still going to have this guy trying to get money back for knives received.

This buyer, with less than a month, and no posts besides to steal your knives, has absolutely nothing to loose by burning a throw away account on here.

DO NOT SEND THIS SCUM A NICKEL!!!
I'm doubtful, but sincerely hoping, that check is good.
Insurance claim after delivery??? Nope
Really hoping this works out for you bro.

Exactly. His check is likely fake, and he wants you to send him a refund before you realize his check is fake. He has already scammed you once and got your knives for free. Don't let him buffalo you twice, and get free $ on top of it.

Damn, I'm 35 min from that address. Sucks that this kind of garbage is going on so close to me. I hope everything goes well!

Yep a scam. Cashier checks stopped being guaranteed legit decades ago. This one will bounce guaranteed. Send this dirtbag no money. Follow Esav's advice. Contact your bank. Follow their advice for dealing with this scam. Do not wait. Good luck and sorry you had to go through this. This scammers ip should he logged for the police.
