Need EDC for wife

Do you think carrying an assisted opener in a purse might bump against all the other stuff in there and deploy?

I know it's not a Kershaw, but how about a Swiss Army Knife? If she's going to be carrying it in her purse it's not going to be used for self defense. Plus being red will make it easy to find, not to mention many usefull tools in one. It's just a thought.

my wife appropriated my S30v blur, she loves the way it snaps open and the size works well for her. She carries it in her front pocket as she'll only carry a purse if and when she's somehow completely filled her jeans pockets...

thats a good point ......but if he goes leek it has a saftey and skyline is a flipper

After showing my girl nearly 40 different knives, she prefers my orange Skyline above all. It took her several days to get the hang of flipping it open, but now she is a pro. The only trouble with liner locks though is that long fingernails can sometimes get in the way, so you may want to check how she is with that.

Well she wants it for defensive purposes as well & she already has most of those items on it in the purse already. It is a good thought though

I didn't think about that...I'll have to let her play with a couple beforehand now to see how the nails will affect her deploying the blade. Great point, huck.

I would ask what she uses it for first. I carry a smaller CRKT Drifter to save on space. The Zing Groove is pretty tight package, the blade is the Sandvik version. I almost pulled the trigger on one but I have a couple of trades going on right now. And one guy has 9 left on a certain auction site right now for $55 shipped from Canada right now.

It would be primarily a defensive tool, but I'm sure like me, shell use it for various other duties as well.

Check out this thread: Finding the right Kershaw or ZT for my Lady

I think the Kershaw Leek Orange (MSRP: $79.95) is out by now?

There's also the FUNXION DIY (Do IT Yourself) (MSRP: $59.95) folder.

Also, Scalion Red (MSRP: $74.95).

I would not recommend an assisted opening knife to a non knife person, but that's just me. With that in mind, that limits your kersaw choices quite a bit. I would go with the skyline for her

I wouldn't either but she will have training with this, unarmed, & with both her .38 & .32. She already has some basic training when it comes to self defense.

I would think an assisted opener would have a safety somewhere to prevent it from opening. I didnt realize this until I was helping my girlfriend find a knife, but women's clothing has no functional pockets to speak of, and most handbags that arent jumbo are not much better. This really limits the size of the knife to 2.5" or under blades. Given the fact she needs to carry it for it to be useful, Id suggest thinking about ergonomics of carrying for smaller hands and pockets. What about a spyderco ladybug or similar?

Ok so my lady loves the Zing Tanto, she also loved the damascus leek i bought her, and she has an orange fixed blade skyline hanging from the knife strip in the kitchen. I will say she was a bit intimidated with the speedsafe on the leek, but after i showed her how to grip it, she was fine. She really liked the orange skyline folder I have simply because of how simple and non-scary it is so the skyline is def a good choice, I just like the way the leek has a lock on it which is why i got her one. good luck on the hunt.....it's always fun when you both are looking.

Maybe a flipper knife would work - Kershaw RAM 1910 would do the trick (not assisted but flips open easily without harming her nails etc...)

The Zing Tanto was my intro to Kershaw knife, had a couple but ended up giving them away & now carry the ZT0350 which she likes but thinks is to big/heavy. Having a fixed blade around is another good idea, may have to borrow that.
