I had the same question a couple years back and I was trying to find a good knife for my survival tin here is a review and overview of some production blades that will fit in a survival tin.

I cut the handle down on a scalpel and it fits in an altoids tin great. I have a pack of 10 blades in there with it. It's mainly there for skinning animals but I suppose it could be used for other things. The blades are in little packs and are sterile to would work for doing surgeries if you had to.

It's so thin it leaves most of the space free, even though it's a big knife:

Thats cool....it fits in their perfect.. I vote for the Sog.....!!!

I am not a huge fan of folding knives for wilderness survival. I feel that the liner lock or similar is a potential failure point which can lead to serious injury. In a survival situation I feel that everything that can go wrong will go wrong, so I tend to stick with fixed blades even if you can get a much larger blade for the same footprint in a folding knife. Now that that said I feel that folding knives are great for urban survival where you will not need to baton or use more agressive style of use.

I had a similar kit and it was so packed that getting anything out and repacking was a major hassle.

I love the Spyderco Ladybug.

Also do you think fitting a mini multi tool, like the gerber dime, and taking a few things out of the kit would be a good idea?

anyone think the gerber mini paraframe would be a good fit?

No!!!
Seriously, it is one of the worst knives I have ever had, and that includes cheap Pakistan made folders from used furniture stores.
Gerber has made some good things along the way; that is not one of them.

Victorinox Swisscard. Not sure if it would fit inside the tin but you could always secure it to the outside with a couple of rubber bands. For $20-$30 you could pick one up with tools that might replace the ones inside the tin itself and you'd gain a little more space for other things.

Good luck, OP! :)
