Need help pending Xmas $$500 which of these 4 would you pick?

If it was me and I was limited to those choices it would be the inkosi with carbon fiber.

If it was meand cpuld pick anything Ide buy another KW Exclusive Spyderco Military with S90V steel and the CF/Ti handle and save $200 for other stuff. I have found that once I cross the $275 price range, the quality and performance increase slows drastically per every extra $25.

For me that Military sprint represents top of the line materials, build quality and cutting performance as well as being made in the USA.

I would say inkosi, only because if you ever do get tired of it and want to sell to get something else, it has the best resale value. The others you might struggle a bit moving, the other 3 will take a bigger hit recouping your money...

You've got 4 very different knives there. The K1 is awesome. Out of all of my Reate's, it's probably my favorite as far as elegant clean lines and amazing blade grind. The top ergos are the Epoch, New Torrents and K1 in that order. I don't think any of the new K series betters the K1 other than manufacturing prowess. I have an Olamic 247 Wayfarer, and would recommend it to anybody that wants a user with great ergos. I recently purchased a Swish, so I can't give it a 100% thumbs up just yet (it's pretty awesome though) other than Olamic's excellent customer service. Liong Mah designs great knives, but I think the $50 or so premium over regular Reate's can be a bit much. Then again, whatever the market will bear I suppose.

As others have mentioned, Reate's (LM included) don't hold their value as well as Olamic or CRK. Unless they're rare/discontinued. CRK resale is good, but I'm not sure I'd call it fantastic if I see a $550 knife going for $400 LNIB. YMMV.

BTW, I do have the Reate Epoch (Damasteel/Mokuti clip & insert) for sale here for $450.

If you're gonna use the knife, pick one with warranty/service that you like. For me, that instantly disqualifies at least one.

That's a hard choice to make.

I seen a custom that's 500ish that tops all of those though.

Indeed, and that's really exciting. Like the Koenig Arius is basically a custom - since you can get one made to order. At the very least it's a midtech that's entirely put together by the guy that owns the company. An Arius starts at >$500 and a pretty nicely finished one is about $550. This is simply as nice as a $1k knife. To think this is his first knife in production, he's in his early 20's, just wow. I just sold my Gen1 Arius to fund a newer model in CF (still have a Ti Gen2).

It's so cool that guys are able to put a Haas CNC in their garage and go to work. The Brown Servo for instance starts at $550. The bare-bones version of it is flat out amazing - simply because he does such an incredible job with his finishes. He used to be a Nasa engineer, this knife acts like a Grimsmo for a fraction of the price. This is only his second knife (books were open for a few hours a week or so ago) and he'll certainly improve.

An Effenberk Sigma starts (or started) around $500, the fit and finish (he even obsesses about the inside finish and tolerances) are extraordinary. Dave used to be an engineer in the auto industry. Any of us who got in on the current Sigma builds are getting more than our money's worth. The plain version with G10 is stunning. He's doing a new knife called the Rage, which will be a custom built that might start around WE prices. The scale inserts are interchangeable! There will be an Al and Ti version.

Holt Bladeworks builds what is essentially a US Shiro. The looks and finish are astounding. $500 starting price. I haven't done this one (yet) but have been gently guided by those who know! He just started!

Bill Koenig is quick to respond to anybody regarding his knives, his warranty is 100% honest, and I can say the same about the others. So not only Grimsmo and Ferrum Forge have serious competition, but so does Reate and WE, and all those they OEM for.

I also highly recommend Olamic, and while they lean towards the production midtech side to some degree (parts made by Fox and imported), they're still fully customized and Eugene stands behind every single knife they build. No other company I know of has a trade-up program.

This is what I'd get.

Holt is sold out and have been for awhile. I looked at them a month or so ago. So forget that one. The only one compelling to me right now is the Koenig but I can not afford the configuration I want. The only one I would want would be the satin blade and CF and that is $750. Never happen. Soooo, I think I will just wait and see what comes out in the next few months. I may regret down the road not getting the CRK but it is not like I don’t already own a CRK.

You all’s thoughts have been great and love other folks opinions on these topics. So, thx!
