Need help with possibly lost package? Please read.

I'll just talk to the PO a little more. If they don't show I guess ill send his money back.
Troy you could try to call the Post Office that serves the buyer in the morning and ask to talk to the carrier that delivers that address.Even if the carrier could recall the delivery,it still wouldn't be the proof required.

Delivery confirmation is included in the price of Priority now.
That's sure possible,I've been out of the loop awhile. It sounds like Troy mailed it at a contract station and they may not do it like the P.O. I mailed a folder as a gift to a forum member last Thurs Priority and asked for delivery confirmation.I did notice that the tracking number was on the receipt instead of a separate paper so that's likely why.

I think the change was made the first of March. I can't speak for mailing at a contract station, I do everything out of my house with an account. Saves me both postage and gas. Note to self: Never trust a contract station without double-checking.

Thanks for the update there Lone Wolf, lol I don't go to town much nowadays.:o:)

I always ship via flat rate boxes. They come with tracking free. The number will be on the receipt if you still have it.

What forum did you sell these knives on?

Also, insurance, tracking, DC, etc, are tools you use to cover your butt. Regardless if the buyer pays for them or not its the sellers responsibility to make sure the buyer gets his knife. Consider it a lesson learned the $ way.

I had them on multiple sites, he contacted me through a local one though.

How many days do you have to make a claim with PayPal after initial payment? Cause 30 days is tomorrow

So if he were to file a report they would just take money from my bank account? That's not cool. At all.

I went back to the po today, they are calling around to see if it is in damaged items.

From the USPS website

https://www.usps.com/ship/priority-mail-flat.htm

Priority Mail Flat Rate

Features

- No weighing or calculating needed
- Delivery within 2 to 3 days in most cases
- Free Package Pickup**
- Free USPS Tracking™ when you ship online and at retail
- Saturday delivery and residential delivery at no extra cost

(emphasis added)

If I'm reading this correctly... if you shipped from a retail outlet, your package should have free tracking. I hope you find your receipt.

Actually, that change was made towards the end of January, now if you send anything Priority mail it automatically comes with a tracking number and delivery confirmation is automatically part of sending a item Priority mail at no extra charge. To see tracking updates, including date and time of delivery or attempted delivery using USPS's Track & Confirm tool. Its all right here--->https://www.usps.com/ship/priority-mail.htm

Its Signature Confirmation that you now pay extra for if you want. Its a extra $2 or $3 but its something I always get.

To the OP, if you sent those knives out Priority mail then you got a tracking number, you just need to find the receipt. I'm not if sure the PO keeps copies of those in their systems or not?

OK, so I was a month and a day off. :p :p

I mailed a package this week and asked for delivery conformation and was told they didnt offer that anymore. now tracking in included when mailing a flat rate box. Find your receipt and on it will be a "label #" that is the tracking. If you cant provide the reciept with the tracking # that proves it was delivered then they can take money from your bank account, you agreed to it when you signed up with paypal

Something sounds weird with this story.

You lowered your price by $100?
No tracking number on a Priority Mail, and they can't pull up the information? (if you used a debit or credit card, they should be able to I've done it 3 times)
Lost receipt for package?
You shipped them despite missing portion of the payment?
You shipped BOTH knives to the seller instead of one to the seller and one to maker (if you had shipped to maker you could easily have asked maker to send back).
You did not receive paypal gift payment, but a invoiced payment as per his request?

It's unlikely the guy knows he can't prove it, if it was really shipped Priority mail he'd see the tracking #.

I dont know, just weird situation. So many warnings, from the invoice, lack communication, dishonest buyer, etc.

I'm pretty sure that the PO changed their policy this year that all priority mail and even first class & parcel post come with a tracking number free of charge. It's automatic...the clerks up here put a tracking label on even if I've also insured it (which you can track with) because the tracking number is standard with it now.

I understand your frustration with what he did and his lack of communication. However, the responsibility fell on you the second you said "ah screw it" and sent hundreds of dollars of merchandise without covering your arse. The rules on these forums is that the seller has the responsibility to get the buyer either the knife (or knives) or their money back. If you were not happy with how he was handling the deal, you should have refunded him and re-listed the knives to sell to someone who would communicate and not short you on money.

This might be an expensive lesson learned...I insure over $100 values and include it in the asking price. Anything below $100, unless it's like a $10 mora, I will always get signature confirmation to avoid this nonsense. I'd rather pay the extra $3 and have peace of mind that I won't be responsible for $90 if they claim "the item never showed up."

Gotcha, lets roll through this again in easy terms to not mix you up...

1) Yes, I lowered my price by $100, it was either let go of 2 knives I can easily re-aquire or lose my job by not having a part to fix my truck. Id gladly throw my collection off a cliff to keep my job.
2) The store I used IS NOT a USPS store, USPS picks up packages from them in the afternoons. They are a cash only store, it irritates me but that's the only one within 30 minutes of me.
3) Receipt isn't lost, filed it in my tax stuff, gotta find it.
4) Isn't my job to send multiple knives in multiple packages when I already DID NOT GET PAID FOR SHIPPING.
5) I am not familiar with PP, I did not realize that an invoice meant no gift option.

Any more accusing questions? Its not like I'm sitting here trying to avoid anything, if the nitwits at the USPS cant find it I'll just send the guy his money back. No big deal.

What I am saying is you sounded needlessly desperate to make the sale. Never make sales when you are desperate without good reason.
Next time take it slow, and you wouldn't be in this predicament.
