After a 3 year wait, my name came up for a Scott Cook Lochsa. On November 11, 2013, Scott emailed me to let me know that I was next in line and that my knife was in the finishing stages and to confirm the details of the build. I got right back to him to confirm my details, and he replied right away to say he'd get on it. In total we exchanged 5 emails that day, with the final email from Scott being a paypal invoice which I paid immediately.

Fast forward 4 months and 7 emails from me with no reply and I'm completely frustrated by this situation. I'm at a loss as to what to do. I've lost the opportunity to dispute the paypal charge, since it's way past 45 days. And with absolutely zero communication from Scott after 4 months I'm beginning to think that I've been burned out of almost $900

Has anyone been through this with Scott? Is this his normal MO?

thanks in advance for any help

Is email the only contact point he offered? I'd try calling or texting him if you have that information.
Maybe he had a computer crash or changed ISP?

He doesn't offer any other contact info, and the number I found for him has been disconnected.

He may have had computer issues, but it should be easy for him to check his paypal account for outstanding orders that he has collected payments for...

I'd be worried too, but from what I've read about custom built to ordering the waiting game is par for the course.
Hope is has a good outcome for you soon.

He doesn't hang out on these forums that much I know. That is unfortunate.
The waiting game is part of the process, but ignoring communication certainly is not and should not be acceptable business practice.

There was a similar thread about Scott not long ago.
He needs to work on his comunication, and he should also stop taking money until the knife is ready to ship IMO.
Hope you hear from him soon.

Mr. Cooks last activity on this forum was in 2011. His last activity on his own website was in late 2013.
If his contacts have run dry and he is unresponsive, there is a good chance he is on the run with customers money.
If it were me I would be looking into legal avenues to secure the money spent for purchase. Only you can protect yourself.

Maybe it's just me getting older, but when did society take a leap off the Golden Gate Bridge regarding morals and values!??! My dad taught me a man's word is his bond.....period....no questions asked. I've sold vehicles locally with nothing more than a handshake while looking the guy in the eye.....as he was in mine. I'm going to crack open an adult beverage and toast the decline of society.......

It's a little early, don't you think.

Thanks for the support Guys. Still no reply from Mr. Cook....
I'm considering sending him a registered letter.

I'll update you all with info as the situation changes

Good idea with the registered letter. Get it signature confirmation, and ask him what the heck is going on. Communication is important and necessary in any business transaction.

Scott has been ill. I got an email yesterday.
"Sorry on the delay and lack of communication. I'm just getting back into the shop after some health issues this winter and a major problem with my IP/website/email. I'm temperarily using this email while I work with some other smarter folks about lost info and recoverery"

Another email today that my Lochsa is on its way home. It looks like Scott is trying to get up to speed again.

just got this email. I'm still not sure this excuses the lack of comm, but I guess it all works out in the end.

Jon,

It has taken some time for me to run down your email address. I ran into some issues this past winter which set me back physically and lost some much need information to contact you.
Your Lochsa sits ready to go. I understand if you have lost interest in this folder. If you would like your money return, I fully understand.
If you would like the Lochsa, I need your shipping information again. All I currently have is a list of emails. Please use this email address for me, the other address I'm still working on.

Scott Cook

It's strange how people who accept orders and payment using their computers only seem to have problems with those same computers when it's time to make good on their deals. It's almost as if they're hoping that claiming to have "computer problems" will get them off the hook for cheating people. Very strange...

It wasn't too long ago the whole knife world longed for a Lochsa, making Scott Cook one steaming hot Maker.

A great way to fall from grace and just be one of those "Hall of Shamers" is to throw your integrity and credibility in the sewer.

Which way will he go????

He's already got there.

This is not the only complaint on this forum. He's also using the same excuses as the others "health issues" "major problem with my IP/website/email". Pretty soon he'll have a car wreck, kill off a family memeber and when it gets really bad, his wife will divorce him taking his shop. But he'll have all those deposits.
